Fan Film Friday: Left 4 Dead and Boba Fett with a Lightsaber!

Speaking of zombies, a teaser for a Left 4 Dead fan film started to circulate the nets this week and it looks very promising to say the least. I love fan films, even though they might not have the budgets of bigger films there is a whole lot more heart in the details. I am always amazed at the ingenuity of the directors to come up with a big budget look using almost no budget at all.

If you check out the film’s website, apparently they are still in pre-production, but once the film is complete they plan on giving it away for free. I highly suggest if you like what you see, dropping them a donation.

8-Bit Left 4 Dead!

TitleScreen

I am a huge fan of Left 4 Dead,(and any game that Valve Produces for that matter) but I am also a huge retro game fan as well. So to tell you the truth when I saw this I almost couldn’t believe it, the two seemed to go together like peanut butter and chocolate, it’s truly the best of both worlds, it’s 8-Bit Left 4 Dead.

This 8-bit Nintendo style port of the first Left 4 Dead was created by Eric Ruth; a self-taught game designer who created it from scratch in his spare time. To simply call it impressive is putting it lightly. All 4 campaigns from the original game are represented here in an old style side-scrolling shooter, Contra style. You can either play it alone, or the game even offers a 2 player co-op mode as well with 2 levels of difficulty offered.  The only downfall is you have to have a PC to play, this is not simply a rom but a full game download. But the download is free and you can get it here. Checkout after the jump for some screen shots!

Left 4 Dead(PC), 4 FREE 24 Hour Trial!

Need something to play this weekend? Haven’t played one of the greatest single and co-op multiplayer games this year? Are you also tired of your friend referring to you as a “Boomer” and not knowing what it is? How about picking up said game for free?

Those wacky guys at Valve are at it again with another offer you can’t refuse. This time giving away Left 4 Dead for 24 hours only! Starting 00:01 GMT this Friday Left 4 Dead will be made free to download over the company’s Steam digital delivery service. This being said I think you should pick up Steam ASAP, because those servers are going to be hot. You can also pre-load the app now and then just flip the switch on Friday morning and start putting the undead in their place.

Here’s the catch, and in this case there is one. Once you get the game it will only allow you to play for 24 hours for free. Then it will lock and you will have to pony up if you want that next fix. Somehow I see this as a great marketing strategy on Valves part because this is one addictive game.

Left 4 Dead: Now in Real Life!

Wow, the folks behind Night Zero, an online photographic comic about the (eventual) zombie apocalypse, recently turned their camera lenses onto a different, but quite similar topic. Valve’s awesome zombie survival game, Left 4 Dead.

Head on over to their Flickr stream to check out several great photos of models posing as your favorite Left 4 Dead characters. Well done guys. Well done.

Left 4 Dead Bears Make Us Feel All Warm … and Bloody … Inside

Seriously, just look at their adorable faces! Clearly ready for the bludgeoning of so many zombies’ undead, less-than-adorable faces. We know, we know: It’s been a few months since Left 4 Dead dropped on your 360/PC and you’ve been wondering if you’ll ever pick it up again. What with teh Hayloez and Street Fighter IV, you’ve got so much on you plate as it is! But seriously, picture this: A Left 4 Dead PC mod with nothing but park rangers coming after you and you’re in a group of adorable bears, swinging spike-lined pic-uh-nic baskets over your heads and throwing molotovs full of skin-melting honey. PERFECT!

Steam modding community, you orders are clear. Get on it!

Left 4K Dead: Shoot Up Some Simple Zombies

left-4k-dead

If your PC is anything like my awful Dell laptop at work, there is absolutely no way you can run Left 4 Dead. And chances are, if you’re like me, you desperately want to. Especially during lunch. But alas, my lappy has the processor power of a cardboard box covered in duct tape.

Luckily, this 4K Javascript tribute to Valve’s awesome Left 4 Dead, is absolutely fantastic. You can shoot up some zombies, in-browser, in this Javascript game that only takes up 4k. That’s it!

Thanks to Brian for the link, who defeats zombies by biting THEM. They then turn into humans.

Oh Snap, It’s….The 2008 Geekadelphia Holiday Gift Guide!

Is it nearly Christmas Chanukah Kwanzaa the Holidays already?! We’ve been so busy rushing from convention to convention and playing game after game over the past few months that these pesky folks called “loved ones” keep bugging us for attention. So we’ve teamed up with PhiladelphiaWeekly.com and the fruits of our labor are here for all to see.

The video above documents a trip to Brave New Worlds Comics in Old City where we found out why some of the items you’ll find suggested after the break made it onto our list. Geekadelphia’s Ben Gilbert spoke with BNW’s Brian Johnson and Geekadelphia’s Editor-in-Chief Eric Smith about everything from The Dark Knight’s many “Limited” Editions to why zombies are awesome (as if you didn’t already know). To explore our full gift guide, with personal suggestions from each member of the Geekadelphia crew, hit that bump! (But do not, DO NOT, shake that bear.)
