Geek Chic: ASCII Curtains

 asciicurtains.jpg

I, for one, have never expressed a desire to own curtains based solely on how awesome they are… until now. Designer Nieke Sybrandy’s concept for these curtains (for those of you too young to remember) stems from graphical imagery used in prehistoric computing systems.  American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) is a character encoding based on the English alphabet.  In the 80′s and 90′s it was the most common way to display graphics and information until bigger and better ways to show porn images were made.

Anyway, what you see here is pure unadulterated geek art in one of its finest forms. More to see after the jump

Puddle Blog: Content Runs Dry Come The Summer

Puddle Blog: Content Runs Dry Come The Summer

“You know, that puddle should have its own blog” – Puddleblog.

Some silly Brooklyn dwellers in New York City have set up a blog for… you guessed it, a puddle. As ridiculous as it is, I can’t help but flick through the pictures. It “chronicles the epic journey of one puddle, bracing for an uncertain future.” Take a look and have a laugh.

Ice Age III: Girl Mammoth Gets Eaten, Bloggers Rejoice

Ice Age III: Girl Mammoth Gets Eaten, Bloggers Rejoice

A lot of the movie blogs I read have been hurling a lot of anger at the Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs poster. I suppose its understandable. I mean, fully grown dinosaurs hanging out with woolly mammoths… if there’s one thing that the Land Before Time series has taught me, it’s that this is impossible.

However, this poster thrills me and makes me want to see the third movie.

Do you see the retarded female mammoth from Ice Age II anywhere? The one that thought she was a friggin’ opossum and was annoyingly voiced by Queen Latifah? No. No you do not.

It’s because she’s been eaten by the dinosaur on the right. The T-Rex just ducked down and chomped her up, and is now eying up the other protagonists. Ice Age III: Rated PG-13.

Blogging: How Geekadelphia Stays in Shape

Blogging: How Geekadelphia Stays in Shape

Blogging. The new way to lose weight.

At least, Jonathan Fields thinks so.

Fields has written up an article detailing how he burns 600 calories a day while blogging. This explains why the people over at Phillyist are such good lookin’ folks. Tim and I adhere to a similar schedule, only instead of running on a treadmill while writing, we eat Five Guys burgers and fries while writing. It’s basically the same thing.

Read up on his methods on his official website.

Maple-Bacon Lollipops: Go Great With Bacon Vodka

Maple-Bacon Lollipops: Go Great With Bacon Vodka

Well, I’ve always said, bacon is the candy of meats.

Looks like Lollyphile thinks the same way.

Behold, the first bacon based lollipop, made with a combination of organic, cured bacon and Vermont maple syrup. A dozen of these delicious looking candies will run you $24. Definitely worth every penny, especially when you hand them out on Halloween.

SkyWalker 12 Foot Tall Bicycles: Soon To Be Seen in No Libs

SkyWalker 12 Foot Tall Bicycles: Soon To Be Seen in No Libs

Brad Graham, a man that obviously loves his bikes, has invented the SkyWalker, a twelve foot tall bicycle… and it actually works. You’ll have to lean it against something, scale the ladder, and go.

I wonder when the dudes at Trophy Bikes are going to start carrying these.

Welcome To The Blogroll: Halo 3 Screenshots

Every once and a while, I come across a new website that makes me kick myself in the ass for not thinking of it first. Halo 3 Screenshots… yeah, definitely one of them. It’s a blog that collects… well, screenshots from Halo 3.

Star Wars Mighty Muggs

Star Wars Mighty Muggs

Hasbro is releasing their own line of vinyl toys, Mighty Muggs, and they’ve got some pretty cute looking figures lined up. Marvel characters, Indiana Jones, and of course, Star Wars, are all thrown into the mix. I know a certain social media guru who is going to want the Chewy figure.

I recently discovered Jinxed here in Philly… I wonder if they’ll be carrying any of these. They carry a ton of designer vinyl. Maybe Brave New Worlds will. We shall see.

John McClane: Geekadelphia’s Choice For President

John McClane: Geekadelphia’s Choice For President

If there is one thing Die Hard movies have taught me, it’s that Bruce Willis is indestructible. In the latest film, he drove a car down an elevator shaft, blew up a helicopter with a police car, and jumped onto an F15 fighter jet… which he then blew up, along with a semitrailer and highway.

Which is why we need him for president. He’s saved the country… FOUR TIMES. He’s awesome and he’s defeated lots of terrorists. LOTS. So let’s get him on board.

Check out the website, McClane For President.

Nintendo DS Faces – Ben Franklin

nintendo_ds_faces.jpg

Cybger Gadget will be releasing some lovable Nintendo DS Lite system cases in December, featuring the faces of two characters from the children’s show Gachapin.

That show is huge in Japan, but not so popular in Philadelphia. In an attempt to capatalize on this fact, Philadelphia has issued their own DS case.

Letterman’s Top 10 via Battlestar Galactica

bsg_cast1.jpg

On March 19th, David Letterman will have 10 cast members from Battlestar Galactica present the Top 10 List. The Underwire wanted to figure out what sort of list it will be… and “Best Places to Frack” would be especially entertaining coming from Edward James Olmos (Admiral Adama). Honestly, I just want to watch more of Grace Park (Athena/Boomer).

Other cast members include President Roslin, Apollo, Starbuck, Gaius, Number Six, Colonel Tigh (does anyone else hope he has the eyepatch?), the Chief, and D’Anna. I also am proud of myself for being able to resist the temptation to make any Final Five references. Letterman airs at 11:35 p.m. ET/PT.

The fourth season of Battlestar Galactica kicks off on March 28 at 10 p.m. ET/PT with two back-to-back half-hour specials, with the first new episode premiering the following week, April 4, 10 p.m.

Keep an eye out for Geekadelphia’s own BSG Premiere Party somewhere in Old City! By then I will have successfully turned Eric into a Cylon.
