World of Workcraft: A Spoof on Life and WoW.

Well this is new. Picture the scenario: You slay dragons all day long, protect the denizens of the Kingdom of Azeroth, and by night… log into your favorite MMO with your friends…World of Workcraft..where everyone has to fight their way up the corporate ladder!

This video is pure machinima genius.

Liberty City vs New York City

It’s no surprise that the amount of detail in Grand Theft Auto IV is stunning.  Graphically, it justifies the Guiness World Record breaking sales numbers in its first week of sales.  While I have yet to try my hand at the awesome power of this game (I know, shocking!) I can still appreciate the coolness of this photo set by Matthew Johnston.

The images speak for themselves – Enjoy!

Philly’s Toynbee Tiles: As Seen in Second Life

toynbee_second_life.jpg

Steve Weinik, Philadelphia’s Toynbee Tile expert, had this fantastic post on his blog last year about toynbee tiles appearing in Second Life. Despite my loathing for Second Life (even though I play World of Warcraft) this is still pretty awesome.

Check out his post, and learn a bit more about it.

Rollercoaster Creator: New Favorite Flash Game

roller_coaster.jpg

That’s a screenshot I took while playing Rollercoaster Creator, my favorite new flash game that allows me to send happy carnival goers to their deaths again, and again, and again.

The game is simple, just build the roller coaster and guide the coaster along so it collects coins, advancing you to the next level. Upgrades become available, such as a loop, water slide, and more.

Enjoy, try not to get busted playing this in your cube. Thanks for the link, Neatorama.

Viper Pilot Cockpit Gaming Setup: BSG Fan Endorsed

Looking through the past few entries, we’ve covered Legos, Star Wars, Steampunk, and SEPTA. Yes I know that these are the money-topics but let’s be honest here… It’s Friday! There is a new episode of the Final Season of Battlestar Galactica tonight at 10 est and we @ Geekadelphia couldn’t be more excited! I’m sure a couple of you are pumped too, so here’s a little something to whet your whistle while you sit at work counting down the hours.

bsg_cockpit.jpg

Chuck Cage’s custom Viper cockpit looks like a great ride.  I’ve never been one for flight sims but this is so much more than that.  For just about $850, a bit of technical know-how and the help of some friends, this digg-worthy rig is one of the best ways to celebrate the new season of BSG.

Eric, it’s on.  This weekend we’re making a Cylon Raider cockpit and fighting these neeeerds.  Toasters for life!

How It Works
Cost: $850 | Time: 2 weeks

Structure: Cage and his team welded pieces of one-inch-square tubing to form the three boxes that make up the sim’s shape, connecting the narrower top box with angle steel. The plywood shell is attached with screws, and fiberglass-laced body filler closes up any gaps.

Controllers: Cage used PPJoy, an open-source application, to mix multiple controls—Saitek’s X52 joystick, throttle and Pro Flight pedal set—into what appears to the game as a single input device. The joystick controls roll and pitch, while the pedals control yaw, just like a real aircraft.

Buttons: The flight controller’s more than 30 buttons and switches map to the Viper’s guns, missiles, afterburners and various navigation options. The joystick buttons let you target enemies, look side to side and backward, and fire thrusters to move the Viper sideways or vertically.

GTA IV Maps Leaked

 libcity.jpg

The title says it all!  For those interested in finding out just how immense this Liberty City area is, check out the gallery of photos on Kotaku.   I, for one, would like to know if there are any missions that involve you chasing someone down inside of a moving subway train, on a motorcycle, with a minigun…. dressed like a clown.

Note: This is labeled as a rumor but it looks pretty legit to me.

Wheel Of Failure

One of my coworkers at my real job (which isn’t Geekadelphia btw), wrote up a blog about some hysterical Wheel of Fortune mess ups.

Makes me want to start a Wheel Of Fail blog.

KORG Synthesizer in Nintendo DS: Geeky Get Up Kids Fans Rejoice

Seriously, I know a bunch of people who are going to want this. I’m looking at you, Lex. The software ships this summer and will run DS owners $50, but come on, I think it’s totally worth the money to be able to play your favorite synth lines from Reggie & The Full Effect.

Visit the official website on the KORG DS-10 for more information.

Stephen Colbert exudes “truthiness” in WoW:TCG

stefencolbear.jpg

…Or so we had hoped. At least I did. OK so this is news to me…give me a break. I don’t exactly stay on top of World of Warcraft: The Trading Card Game news… but this happens to be something worth discussing.

Here’s how it went down. Upper Deck hired Todd Lockwood to produce artwork inspired by The Colbert Report’s Stephen Colbert. I’m not a frequent viewer of the show but apparently he’s an avid gaming and role playing enthusiast. Blizzard Entertainment and Upper Deck had hoped that he would feature such awesomeness on his show, giving them a ridiculous amount of publicity.

Tragically, Colbert’s agent nixed the idea without ever showing it to him for approval. Seriously. WTF.

For now, it only exists as a relic for fans and wow geeks like myself. For your viewing pleasure, here’s a higher quality version of the finished card, and the artwork in wallpaper form.

Fact: If any of you awesome readers happens to have a way to get Stephen to see this, you will become an internet celebrity.

Play Halo III For Charity With Geekadelphia

Play Halo III For Charity With Geekadelphia

Gaming For Others recently announced a Halo III tournament that will be raising funds to help “Beanie”, a gamer, get a life-saving kidney transplant. She doesn’t have insurance, and every dollar counts.

There are two events running during the competition, a Free For All and a 4 on 4 Team Slayer match. The rules are simple. In FFA, six players enter, the top three advance. In 4×4 team matches, whoever wins the best of three, advances. It’s $10 a player to enter.

Geekadelphia will be participating in this competition. If you’re a Halo III gamer from the area and would like to join in, let us know. I’ll order some pizza and we’ll game for a charitable cause.

Thanks to Hawty McBloggy for the heads up on this event.

Guitar Hero Carabiner: I Can Has?

Guitar Hero Caribener: Epic Fail

Remember when the Kimmel Center had that Guitar Hero competition? Did you miss it, just like everyone else? For those of you who did and don’t own a major gaming system, you can now get your Guitar Hero kicks on the go.

Not too long ago, Activision (publishers of everything from Pitfall! to Call of Duty 4) accidentally released the name of their upcoming portable version of Guitar Hero, forcing those of us so inclined on the internet to hold our collective breath in anticipation of a release sometime soon. Though Active have stayed mum on the release date, toy maker Basic Fun has released something to help us through these uneasy times: the Guitar Hero Carabiner .

Though, as the article says, the neck seems quite pointless, I imagine it’d be far more difficult to play the tiny little thing with buttons up there. Also, from an aesthetic perspective, the Carabiner would appear silly without the neck altogether. Design-wise, Basic Fun were in between a speaker cabinet and a hard place. Furthermore, at only $14.99 a pop, I’d bet strongly against there being a better Guitar Hero themed Carabiner on the market for a lower price.
