Cubesday: Futurama Cubicle Sign

Cubesday occurs every Tuesday, and we write about things that pertain to the magical world of cubicles and office warfare.

In any case this fantastic 8.5×6.5″ tin sign is back in stock at ThinkGeek. You can hang it, you can set it up on its own using its easel, or you can use it to impale that ONE guy who always manages to find some way to ruin your day. A worthwhile $9.99 if used correctly.

Of course there are better tactics, and far more effective measures for waging war in the office environment…such as constructing your own set of catapults, effectively creating a barrage of flaming memos flying through the air.

I think I need some more coffee.

Handheld Super Nintendo Hack Has Us Salivating

It’s arguable that Ben Heckendorn has started a revolution. Known in the past for making some pretty outlandish mods, the folks over at BenHeck.com (including the man himself) are a serious driving force in the mod world. And today we can add one more crazy item to the list as one of the forum users over there (Mr. “Life of Brian”) has created the beautiful handheld Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) you see above.

According to the Life of Brian: “The system comes with a fast ‘smart’ charger. A full charge takes only 2.5 hours at most. It knows when to shut off power when charging and the light on the charger changes from red to green. There is also a protection circuit inside to prevent overcharging and over-discharging.” You wouldn’t want SNES over-discharge all over your hands, now would you?! The man’s not asking a selling price, but considering the combination of Nintendo DS and “DS Storage Device” could result in unlimited free games across many console generations, we’d imagine he’s shooting for under $100.

Make Your Own: Papercraft Star Wars Minifigs

papercraft_clone.jpg

In case you were completely out-geeked by fellow Star Wars fans and haven’t had anything to show for standing in line at Toys’R'Us’ Midnight Madness extravaganza, here’s something for you. The templates and instructions can be found at Japanese site Piro Model. Truthfully I think we could benefit from an english version of the site but the photos seem to be pretty self explanatory. Stay tuned for my attempt at one of these, especially their Shadow Stormtrooper version.

John Nouanesing’s Concept Table

drippy.jpg

There are conceptual designs, and there are tables designed by French designer John Nouanesing.  It only takes 5 seconds to figure out how this table could work (it’s not real or for sale..just yet) but that surely doesn’t take away from how fracking badass it looks.  Avid watchers of Showtime’s Dexter may begin to salivate at the sight of this.

I would suggest having it in white and calling it “Spilled Milk” or in lime green and it could fit into any Nickelodeon-themed dining room.  The possibilities are endless but they’re all pretty damn cool in our book!

WANT: Space Invader Cutting Board

Fact: I like cooking.  If I didn’t already own 16 different cutting boards I would buy this in a heartbeat.  Actually Meg would kill me if she knew I spent $129.99 for a cutting board.  Regardless, it’s motherfrackin’ SPACE INVADERS.

I highly recommend that you get one of these, Eric.  It would match your cubicle nicely…not that you need a cutting board at your cubicle.  Or do you?  I never know what sort of twisted, horribly disgusting things go on at your work to be honest.

Eric Therner’s Pilen Concept Bicycle

 therner-concept-cycle.jpg

So it’s officially Summer in Philadelphia!  It seems to me that everyone and their mother is riding a bike to get around town, and rightly so (Bikes don’t run on gasoline).  I’ve been shopping around for a solid set of wheels myself.  Something light, good looking, and won’t ruin my manly parts.  Granted, I’m not looking to pay top shelf prices for such a transportation device, I can’t help but drool over some cool new ideas some designers have posted recently.

Formerly a partner at ADDI (Designgroup based in Sweden) Eric Therner submitted his bold concept to Designboom just recently.  It’s a collaboration with the Swedish Bicycle Manufacturer Pilen-cykel and it’s based on the 1930′s Lemans racers.  Personally it’s beautiful.  Check out those curves, those lines, and the styling.  He’s combined the latest manufacturing materials and techniques with the newly integrated features in today’s bike market.  LED lights and a two-part saddle that more effectively absorbs shock (Yes! Take THAT, potholes!)  More Photos available after the jump!

NES Coffee Table: Actually Works!

NES Coffee Table: Actually Works!

We love anything involving modded NES gear. This gorgeous gigantic Nintendo controller, which is also a coffee table, is no exception. Kyle Downes is the artist behind this awesome piece of furniture… and it actually works. He custom built a computer board into the thing. Inside, you can store lots of video game swag.

The glass on the table comes off when you’re ready to play. So ridiculously cool. Tim, I’d like to you start, post haste, on a fully functional N64 coffee table. I don’t care how hard it’ll be to click the trigger on the bottom… no, I also don’t care how hard it’ll be to handle the joystick… Tim, TIM. Get to work.

Photoshop Disasters: Great Blog

Think you’re a master of Photoshop?

Think again.

Photoshop Disasters, a hysterical blog that chronicles horrible attempts at Photoshop, usually done for high profile clients, shows off some truly terrible images. Pay them a visit, have a laugh, and make sure you don’t make the same mistakes. They might come for you next.

l33t Eye Chart Doubles as l33t Tshirt

leet-eyes.jpg

This is teh l33t haxorz. Made up of fairly popular online acronyms, this eye chart does not promise an accurate measurement of one’s vision. In its true form, it makes for an awesome and totally ridiculous garment. Plus it’s printed on black, and that means you can wear it anywhere!

The shirt is $20 (the price you pay to show off your knowledge of online acronyms) at Off World Designs. They also have a “Guitar Halo” shirt that I can totally see Eric wearing to a date.

Here in Philly, we like to make things.  It is also universally known that toys are cool.  Therefore, making toys is totally awesome.  I wrote about speakerdog paper toys in my old blog — but since then, there have been a whole slew of really awesome, customizable, and 90% free paper toy designs.

I really want to get more featured Cubesday stuffs, so I figured this sort of thing would get you g33ks going!

CUBESDAY: Krystine Lopez, Orlando

Krystine Lopez, Orlando - Cubesday

It’s CUBESDAY! Today we’re featuring Krystine Lopez’s cube, who hails all the way from Orlando, Florida. Krystine is a photographer, works for a record label, and her cube is decorated in all sorts of indie-designer postcards. The fact that she has Geekadelphia on her monitor scores her some serious bonus points. Like, at least +250EXP. And scope out that Hipsterkick Sidekick with the yellow casing.

You can also spot a The Enemy is Syphilis tin lunchbox and a photo of her lovely daughter, Kaia.

Krystine goes on to explain the postcards and other pieces in her cube after the jump! Remember, if you’re interested in featuring your workspace here on Teh Ge3k, just drop us a line!
