Tired of your lame office chair? Maybe it squeaks too much or lacks decent padding. Perhaps your chair doesn’t make you feel like an important person at your job. Let’s face it, not everyone can feel as important as a CEO of a company or, you know, the company’s blogger. Ahem. So this replica of Captain Kirk’s command chair from the Starship Enterprise, might be just the thing for you.

The chair will be out this holiday season, priced at around $2000. It features all kinds of fun flashing lights, sound effects, and will look sweet as hell in your cubicle.

Just make sure you order a replica Star Trek Communicator to go with it. Cause otherwise no one is going to take you seriously.

No, you aren’t looking at wallpaper. Those are vinyl decals that you can get over at ThinkGeek for $75. They are re-stickable and pretty great looking.

Pixelated video game art on walls always looks fantastic, but the rendered cartoony characters… not so much.

In any case this fantastic 8.5×6.5″ tin sign is back in stock at ThinkGeek. You can hang it, you can set it up on its own using its easel, or you can use it to impale that ONE guy who always manages to find some way to ruin your day. A worthwhile $9.99 if used correctly.

Of course there are better tactics, and far more effective measures for waging war in the office environment…such as constructing your own set of catapults, effectively creating a barrage of flaming memos flying through the air.

In a more perfect world, I would only imagine that the majority of people would have the vision, genius, and initiative that Jared Nielsen had when he sunk $2000 into remodeling his own cubicle.  The majority of the cost went into the chair and the LCD monitor, and rightly so.

Jared expresses the reasoning behind it much better than I ever would, so take a look:

Ah, USB Gadgets. We sure do love ‘em. And so does Crunchgear (seriously Doug, that’s one hell of a list). This cute little USB Greenhouse might be our new favorite.

The kit comes complete with marigold seeds for planting, but hey, you can plant whatever you want, according to the product’s website. A great Cubesday accessory to brighten up your little office. This would give all those pot smoking hippies on South St ideas, if they had jobs with computers and USB ports to begin with.

Along with the seeds, the kit has fake soil, lighting, and a program that lets you monitor your plant on the PC!

Unfortunately, the USB Greenhouse only works with Windows 2000 (stuff works in Windows 2000?) and XP, and will not run on a Mac. Read more about it on the product page.

Don’t you hate it when you have a piece of important paperwork on your bulletin board, but there is no way you can accurately express your loathing for it, short of crumpling it up and throwing it at your neighbor? Because hey, you need that damn TPS report. You can’t just chuck it anywhere.

Thanks to Chromoly, perhaps, one day, you’ll be able to take your anger out on your paperwork without completely destroying it.

Alas, the ends are not sharp like a ninja star, and are instead, thin pieces of metal like traditional tacks. These are currently prototypes, but here’s hoping they go into production in the near future. Cause those things are awesome.

There are a lot of terms you hear thrown around the office. Logging on, boss, getting fired… I know I’ve heard that third phrase several times in the past week, after I threw a stapler at my neighbor. She’s okay. Don’t worry.

Ever wonder where all these phrases came from originally? Check out the origins of the term cubicle.

Cubicle: Dating back to the 1400’s, this word stemmed from the Latin cubiculum, meaning “sleeping area” (completely apropos). It became obsolete after the 16th century, but it was revived in the 19th century as a word for “dormitory sleeping compartments.” Its use as any partitioned space didn’t surface until the 1920s.

Amazing! And to think, to this day, it still means ’sleeping area’ for so many of us.
