Skull Helmet Reeks of Cool

skull.jpg

Rarely do I highlight gadgetry from the realm of bikers and choppers but this requires a special mention because I could be found wearing this in Old City just for fun, as I have an affinity for costuming in black.

Santiago Chopper has this Skull Helmet available for $150 and I can’t get over its looks.  Before you ask if it’s fully functional, I believe the answer is “Yes, of course.”  After all, isn’t that what the padded lining on the inside is for?

1995 Batmobile Sells for Pennies, Ceiling Cat Approves

batmobile_batman_forever_1.jpg

Batman Forever was one of those movie I saw as a wide-eyed 11 yr old and thought was the best thing ever. Nearly 13 years later I now realize just how bad it was. The soundtrack to that movie was also my first ever CD. I also maintain that U2′s Hold me Thrill me Kiss me was their best song ever, but that’s neither here nor there.

Recently the Batmobile from this movie was sold by Warner Brother at RM Auctions for “only” $297,000. The car was valued at over $800,000. A STEAL compared to the original price tag of $2,800,000 to make this bad boy. Unfortunately we won’t be seeing it on the mean streets of Center City because:

- PPA would have a hissy fit over the two parking spaces it would require
- There’s a laundry list of restrictions on it, one of which prohibits the use of the Batmobile on public streets.
- And there’s also the fact that the buyer is not even in the Philadelphia area.. but that’s not important.

The list of restrictions can be seen after the jump, followed by official proof that Ceiling Cat approves of this auction.

ROFLcon 2008: Attack of the Memes

This is a big slap in the face for every person that wished certain memes just fizzled out. Do you hate LOLcats? Are you nauseated by the thought of reading another list of Chuck Norris facts? Does Tay Zonday bring you happiness …or a certain sadness that can only be described as suicidal? All hope is finally lost, as ROFLcon 2008 promises to perpetuate those famous internet videos, links, and photos your friends clog your inbox with.

OK so they’re not all bad. I personally am guilty for perpetuating said links and totally quote them in public. I LOVE (well written) geeky webcomics, and fortunately some of the guests at ROFLcon will be XKCD, Homestar Runner, and Red vs Blue. Check out a running guest list on the even website… And for those I haven’t yet convinced into attending, here’s their “about us” blurb:

This is the ongoing record of an effort to assemble every famous internet meme or celebrity to come to Harvard in the spring of 2008 to attend a conference.

Presumably, they’re going to talk about fame online.

Guests we would like them to include are: Penny Arcade, That Star Wars Kid, and (cough) Geekadelphia (cough)

More info, like tentative details of the event such as date and time, are posted after the jump.

Take your WoW character home; Beware of Envy

photo009.jpg

In more action figure news, I finally have the opportunity to display my Undead Mage in the middle of the living room. FigurePrints is a company that’s bringing cutting edge rapid prototyping 3d printing technology to the masses. When you’re talking about the 7+ million subscribers and aficionados of the popular mmorpg World of Warcraft, the word “masses” almost seems silly.

For $99.99 and $15 s/h (US) you can get in the queue and order a custom one-of-a-kind figure (based on your in-game character) encased in a glass dome and a heavy base. A slew of actual product photographs are available after the jump.

What’s that you say? You can’t order yet? Well there are two caveats thus far – the first being a 3 month wait (the demand has skyrocketed even before the website has opened to the public), and there’s also the realization that bringing said virtual character into the real world may very well sever your relationships to the opposite sex. I know, I’m sorry I made the “geek can’t get a girl” joke but c’mon. I’m engaged and I’m fairly certain my fiance would hack my body apart and feed it to mice before she’d ever be OK with me having one of these. …BUT that doesn’t stop you… faithful… beautiful readers, from buying it for me.

FigurePrints‘ website opens for business on Dec. 11th.

Candy or Drugs?

Ice Breakers Pacs

The narcotics officers here in Philadelphia are pretty upset with Hershey and their new brand of Ice Breakers, Pacs, which are basically sugar inside a gel bag that dissolves in your mouth. Look closely at the picture above, and try to figure out why they are so upset. Crack anyone?

The Pacs actually look almost identical to the heat-sealed bags circulating on the streets, which you can see here on MyFox Philadelphia. No word on if Hershey is going to change the appearance of the product, but I’d sure like them to change the price. That candy is hella expensive.

Best of CSS Design 2007: Philly REPRESENT!

post_happycog.gif

Nick La of the famed N.Design Studio just published a handpicked list of the top 50 websites of 2007 from his own Best Web Gallery. The list can be found on his WebDesignerWall and is receiving a lot of eyes today (as it should) via Digg.

An added plus is the fact that Philadelphia (and NYC)’s own Happy Cog studio is on the list!

New Dark Knight Stills Creep Me Out

2079985101_cd8b0ce8bc.jpg

These are hardly “leaked” as everyone via Digg keep saying. It’s quite obviously a viral marketing campaign, and it’s annoying that Hollywood is banking on it like as if it were the new black! Heath Ledger’s ‘Joker’ has somewhere around 10 websites (I’m too lazy to find the real count as it keeps changing). I KNOW that this series of movies completely disregards the old Batman series but you can’t expect us to forget that Jack Nicholson’s version was arguably the classiest villain of all time. I wouldn’t mind tossing back a few beers with him. However, in the dark alleys of Center City, I would fear for my life if I saw Heath Ledger in makeup…so here’s hoping it’ll live up to the hype.

Anyhow, here are some new images – much clearer than what was recently featured on some magazine covers, and undoubtedly an unbeatable resource for anyone planning next Halloween’s project. More shots after the jump!

Geekspace Friday Showdown: Tim Quirino v. P’unk Ave

The Geekspace gallery is a collection of work environments that belong to local Philadelphians. Every Friday we will present our kickass audience a showdown between two or more featured spaces. This week, just because Geekadelphia is my new baby, I decided to pit my space up against P’unk Ave. Observe:

space_tim.jpg

So I tend to be quite the hermit when it comes to working at my desk. It’s not that I can’t play well with others (I can, honest! ) but I simply prefer to have total control over my area. I mean, it IS at home, so that’ll be my excuse for now. P’unk Ave., on the other hand…

space_punk.jpg

…hosts art openings, the Junto, community meetings, and generally embrace our neighborhood and city! Sure, that may paint me as an evil hermit but hey, such is the difference in the creative world right?

Anyhow I’m a big fan of the open space, refreshment selection, comfy environment, and all around good times that they exhibit. Maybe I should open up my space to these things eventually… but hey, it wouldn’t be as interesting a comparison as it is now!
