Rejected Star Wars Toys

Rejected Star Wars Toys

McMorran posted up some Star Wars toys that never quite made it. Which is unfortunate, because as a child, I always wanted to reenact the moisture farm massacre. Who didn’t?

However please note, the smoldering corpses of Uncle Owen & Aunt Beru are sold separately.

Other toys that didn’t make it? Try Ben Franklin in Star Wars… no seriously, there’s a whole web page dedicated to putting Ben Franklin inside Star Wars movies. WTF.

Smart Drink Coasters: Drinking + LEDS = Seizures

Smart Drink Coasters: Drinking + LEDS = Seizures

Joe Polastre over at Sentilla has supplied some instructions and video of his Smart Drink Coasters, which can sense the weight of your drink and light up in different patterns according to that. Tons of drinking game possibilities, including my favorite, Shakes. Whoever seizures like-a-small-child-watching-Pokemon first, drinks! Fun for all.

Cool video after the jump, showing the little guys in action. The only you need to add, are some cool sound effects or rave music. Maybe the Strongbad and the Cheat’s techno song.

It’s definitely a good idea for a MakePhilly project. Be sure to go this weekend.

Water Skimming Robot: Drowns in Schuylkill

Water Skimming Robot: Drowns in Schuylkill

I recently purchased a Roomba robot off some guy on Craigslist, and I immediately feared the inevitable robot uprising. Truly, it is only a matter of time. They don’t just clean our apartments anymore. They fly, they work as secretaries, and now, they walk on water.

Students at Carnegie Mellon University’s NanoRobotics lab decided to help robots defeat humans even quicker, by creating this robotic water strider. Thanks guys, you’ve doomed us all.

w00t: Crowned Word of the Year

w00t: Crowned Word of the Year

Yesterday, “w00t” was crowned Word of the Year by Merriam-Webster, claiming that the word “reflects a new direction in the American language led by a generation raised on video games and cell phone text-messaging.” Spokes people from the dictionary said that it’s “like saying Yay!” and it can be used after a triumph, or simply for no reason at all.

The runner up? “Facebook” used as a verb.

Check out the Merriam Webster website for the top ten choices, and then email them suggestions for next year, such as “curses!” or “jaun

Wednesday Game: Desktop Tower Defense

Desktop Defense

For some reason, people dub Wednesday “Hump” Day, since it’s the middle of the week. Please note, I do not recommend doing a Google search for the term “hump day”, as you will get many NSFW results. Many.

I’ve decided that every Wednesday, we’ll be posting some sort of online game, to help get you through that day that falls in the middle of the week. Today’s choice, is Desktop Tower Defense. You’re going to love it. Click below.

CUBESDAY: Krystine Lopez, Orlando

Krystine Lopez, Orlando - Cubesday

It’s CUBESDAY! Today we’re featuring Krystine Lopez’s cube, who hails all the way from Orlando, Florida. Krystine is a photographer, works for a record label, and her cube is decorated in all sorts of indie-designer postcards. The fact that she has Geekadelphia on her monitor scores her some serious bonus points. Like, at least +250EXP. And scope out that Hipsterkick Sidekick with the yellow casing.

You can also spot a The Enemy is Syphilis tin lunchbox and a photo of her lovely daughter, Kaia.

Krystine goes on to explain the postcards and other pieces in her cube after the jump! Remember, if you’re interested in featuring your workspace here on Teh Ge3k, just drop us a line!

R2D2 Translator

R2D2 Translator To Be Installed in North Philly

It’s okay, you can fess up to making the R2D2 Translator say all kinds of lewd things, because I totally just did. And it wasn’t pizza.

Is the R2D2 Mailbox in Philadelphia still around? Last I heard it got vandalized. TX-5882 is dying to pay the mailbox a visit, so he too can vandalize it. With his light saber.
