Philadelphia Nerd Rock: Robots & Racecars Launch Kickstarter

Since their creation in 2007, Robots and Racecars have been working the music circuit all around the Philadelphia area. With their album We Can’t All be Astronauts, and their EP Fighting Nessie under their belts– they’re ready to start bringing some new nerdrock to their fans. So, they put up a Kickstarter in an attempt to fully fund their next album.
So what exactly is Nerd Rock? Well, Robots and Racecars is the perfect definition. “We write songs about what we like!” Singer and guitarist Matt Herb raves about singing about all things nerdy. “High Water Mark is about crashing a spaceship into the sun. Press Start to Continue is about Mario. The chorus is ‘Your princess sits inside a different castle.’”
As bassist and singer Nick Reed succinctly puts it, “We like time machines, Dr. Who, and robots.”
The Kickstarter not only funds the album—but you can get some sweet swag. There are a number of contributions you can give ranging from $1-$1,000. A $50 pledge will get you a signed photo, and thanks in the liner notes of the new album. Pledge $250 or more and you will get an invitation to a private album release party in Philadelphia, and a signed cymbal used in the recordings of We Can’t All be Astronauts and Fighting Nessie.
This album is the band’s final push to turn them from viral popularity into worldwide fame. “We’re making one last attempt to make Robots SOMETHING.” Matt says, “If this album doesn’t happen (our viral popularity is) going to drop off a lot sooner and be a lot less, and honestly—it’ll break my heart because we’ve been doing this for years.”
Robots and Racecars will be playing at North Star Bar on May 4th. So go and check out Nerd Rock at it’s finest! Tickets are $8 to get in, and you’ll see other great local music too. And be sure to check out the Kickstarter.
