Dorian’s Parlor is the Ultimate Geeky Getaway

A few weeks ago, Geekadelphia gave away tickets to Dorian’s Parlor, a monthly steampunk event held at the Doubletree Hotel in downtown Philly. I had been wanting to go for months, but this past October was the first time I actually got a chance to attend. I am now kicking myself for each Dorian’s Parlor that I missed.
Dorian’s Parlor is basically a once-a-month Victorian/steampunk nightclub, with a dash of fandom convention thrown in. The main ballroom has a full stage for the various bands that perform, along with a killer lighting and sound set up from production company Circuit Six. There are snacks, a bar, and tables set up inside, with real candlelight to set the mood.

In the hallways just outside of the ballroom are vendor tables. You can scope out some beautiful handcrafted jewelry, buy a corset, purchase vintage spectacles and medical implements (seriously!), or get a professional photo taken.
The organizers of Dorian’s Parlor do an excellent job of creating a Victorian atmosphere (that ballroom at the Doubletree is a perfect choice), while giving patrons some modern entertainment. And don’t think you have to have a perfect Victorian or steampunk costume to attend.
While it is requested that you dress up, 20th century formal attire mixed with a nice top hat or something goes a long way and is perfectly acceptable. Of course, if you happen to have an historically accurate Victorian dress, you’re encouraged to wear that too!

Entry to Dorian’s Parlor is just $20, and that includes a drink ticket. Parking at the Doubletree garage is discounted at $10 with validation. Given how many bands usually perform, and the other incredible performers that are featured, that is one hell of a deal.
Come on out to the November event, which will be held on the 27th. In the meantime, check out some of our photos from the October event below.

Dorian’s is Ah-maz-ing! I’ve been to two of them. There are also fashion shows and awesome people. Everyone should go!
