Win Passes to an Advance Midnight Screening of Devil

Devil, which opens Friday, September 17th, has been getting a really bad rap recently, just because of a certain name on a certain trailer title card.
So for those of you who haven’t done your homework, let me set the record straight. Even if you have some doubts about this film, I definitely wouldn’t write it off. The plot synopsis goes something like this:
Set in an office building, the film follows five strangers who become trapped in an elevator and, after several terrifying and inexplicable events occur, begin to turn against each other as they come to suspect that one of them is, in fact, the Devil.
While the film is based on a short story by M. Night Shyamalan, the film is actually scribed by Brian Nelson who wrote Hard Candy and the screenplay for 30 Days of Night. I loved Hard Candy, it was a very dark and edgy film that made Ellen Page’s career and got her noticed by Hollywood.
For direction we have the Dowdle Brothers: Drew, who was a writer and producer on Quarantine and John Eric, who also co-wrote and directed Quarantine. Say what you will about American remakes, but the Quarantine and REC debate is probably one of the hottest in zombie fandom, probably because of how good of a job the Dowdle Brothers did on translating the film for American audiences, genuinely keeping true to the spirit of the Spanish original.
Also of note is Devil is the beginning of The Night Chronicles Trilogy, three horror films based on ideas by Shyamalan that deal with the supernatural; with the next, Twelve Strangers, circling around a jury discussing a case that deals with the supernatural. The third and final film is rumored to be cannibalized from ideas from an unfinished Unbreakable 2 script.
We are giving away 30 passes to an advance screening of Devil and I want people to check this film out and give it a fair chance. The screening will be held Thursday, September 16 at 11:59pm at the AMC in Cherry Hill. To win a pass, simply comment with your favorite urban legend and why.
The deadline is Friday since these will be going out by snail mail so be ready to send me your address ASAP so I can send these out on Saturday morning in time for the screening. Good Luck!

Check out the trailer after the jump!

Bloody Mary! Not only because it’s a delicious brunch beverage.
SPRING HEEELED JACK! the greatest villain to ever stalk the streets of London.
I think the Jersey Devil has always been one of my favorties. Like you need to remind yourself to be scared when you’re driving through Jersey in the middle of the night!
I’m a big fan of Mr. Rogers being a Marine Sniper.
My favorite urban legend is the ghost in the Three Men and a Baby movie. The fact that it turned out to just be a cardboard cut out of Ted Danson makes it even better, because who wouldn’t want one of those?
The creepy clown statue in the kid’s room that’s actually a crazy person/midget. Plays on all kids’ fears of shadows at night.
My favorite urban legend is the explosive and deadly combination of pop rocks and soda because its sounds ridiculous but people still avoid it
@Brittany – Im still terrified of clowns… Ugh
rest stop, it is scarey
the clowns, i love it
i love rest stop
the clowns, it was scarey
final cut, that was scarey
bloody mary, i like it
Probably the Jersey Devil. I grew up in the pine barrens and it was very easy to convince other kids you saw it when riding a bike through the woods. So many friends lived deep in the woods with long driveways so you could always claim to have just seen it. So easy to scare the girls in class at a party in 6th grade with this one!
The legend of Biggie Smalls. Making him miss the Devil’s Halloween party may be the biggest mistake of your life.
I’m actually still waiting to pass that gum I swallowed seven years ago, but I would have to say that the old “pop rocks & cola” legend is my favorite. I remember convincing a friend of mine to try it in third grade, and waiting in anticipation for him to explode.
bloody mary was my fav
the jersey devil is by far the best and makes it great because Ben Franklin maybe the one who started it
One of my favorite urban legends is that alligators live in sewers. I’m pretty sure I believed that to be true when I was first told that as a child.
The hook-man! I remember my mother telling me this story when I was little, about the teenagers necking in the woods and the escaped mental patient with the hook for a hand. She claimed it was a true story that happened in her neighborhood when she was growing up. I believed that, until sometime during high school and I got into research about urban legends.
I’d like to see the movie, regardless of M. Night’s involvement. When my boyfriend and I saw Scott Pilgrim, and the trailer was shown, several people in the front openly stood up and loudly booed. What a shame.
One of my favorite urban legends is the The scuba diver in the tree one. Its supposed to be based on a true story but no one really knows. There is even a lateral thinking puzzle that came out of it if I remember correctly. If you’d like to find out how a guy in full diver outfit ends up in a forest in a tree 30 miles away from any sort of water source, you can read more here: http://goo.gl/j5FO
No light pollution in the Pine Barrens. That’s how the Jersey Devil likes it.
Although not really as interesting as some of the above, one of the more interesting ones is pretty much the legend that if your college roommate commits suicide, you are guaranteed a 4.0 GPA. It’s a bit more laid back than most of the horror legends above, but I always found it’s interesting to hear while in college. There are a bunch of movies based around it, and some are pretty good. Anyways, thought I’d post. It’s probably a bit late regarding that offer above, but the article is still great.
