Score Free Passes to an Advance Screening of MACHETE

Closed!

I will gladly go on record saying that the Quentin Tarantino/ Robert Rodriguez failed theatrical experiment Grindhouse was probably one of my single favorite experiences in a theater ever. While some might argue that the films Planet Terror or Death Proof might have not lived up to fan expectations, one thing no one ever complained about were the faux trailers spliced in between the two films.

The two standouts of the lineup, which even included Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’s own Edgar Wright were Eli Roth’s gruesome and very hilarious Thanksgiving, and Machete also by Rodriguez.  The Machete trailer, which focused on a story of a renegade Mexican federale (Trejo) who is double crossed, when hired for a hit job while posing as an average by the hour day laborer immediately became a hit with fans.

When Grindhouse was first released Machete was supposed to be next up for Rodriguez, but after Grindhouse didn’t live up to expectations and the films were eventually split for foreign distributors, fans were left in the lurch waiting for Danny Trejo to dawn a machete lined trench coat.  Three years have passed and Rodriguez has made good on his promise of bringing one of the hardest working actors in genre films to the front in his own action film.

I am huge fan of Trejo and quite honestly cannot wait to see this film, and you wont have to. The film opens September 3rd and also stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Rodriguez, Jessica Alba, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson, Steven Seagal and Lindsay Lohan. I have 50 passes for 2 to an advance screening of Machete tonight at The Rave Theater at 7:30pm.

Wanna go? Show Danny Trejo some love and leave a comment with your favorite Danny Trejo film, that shouldn’t be too hard he has only been in like 200 and I will send you the code to enter for your free passes.

Till then check out the trailer below that started it all WARNING NSFW!

His turn in the Spy Kids films were fun (as Uncle Machete!) but honestly, how could you pass up his head on a tortoise in Breaking Bad!!!

Trejo, his knives and his tattoos were the real stars of Desperado (which pretty much kicked ass).

Nobody referenced him in Con Air? He was scary as all get out.

  13. Zacksmizzle August 26, 2010 at 9:54 am #

He’s one of those guys who will have a small cameo in a movie and you’re like, “Oh man that’s Danny Trejo!” i.e. the bartender in Anchorman: Legend of Ron Burgandy: “Hey man, times are changing. Ladies can do stuff, now!” Glad to see he’s starring in his own major motion picture.

  14. Matt August 26, 2010 at 9:56 am #

Desperado. I dug the knives. Bad. Ass.

  15. Dean Sykes August 26, 2010 at 9:56 am #

Danny Trejo is the man. Glad he got his own movie finally. The best would have to be from dusk till dawn.

  16. Zoe August 26, 2010 at 10:04 am #

I hate to repeat everyone else, but Dusk til Dawn.

  17. dustin August 26, 2010 at 10:08 am #

This movie is gonna be awesome!

  18. Ian August 26, 2010 at 10:09 am #

My favorite Danny Trejo appearance was as a VIDEO GAME MID-BOSS in “Def Jam’s Fight For NY”.
Trejo (as himself) was such a bad ass that the only way you could beat him was to throw him into an oncoming subway car.

He was awesome in Predators, I hated that they killed his character off so early. I wish they would have had a huge redemption moment for him instead of (if I remember correctly) a kind of lame off screen kill.

  20. Chris August 26, 2010 at 10:17 am #

I liked Danny in Fanboys as the Chief, with all his wisdom, and red track suit.

  21. jeff August 26, 2010 at 10:47 am #

He was cool in Anchor man

  22. Dan August 26, 2010 at 10:47 am #

Come on, gimme the tickets, I’m a Dan, you’re a Dan, let’s go see a Dan.

From Dusk Til Dawn was a great film plus he was also in The Replacement Killers with Chow Yun-Fat who’s DEFINITELY 1 of my fav actors. He was 1 of the characters in the film title. His other film Vengeance looks great as well. It’s about time he gets the chance to play the lead.

  24. Nick D. August 26, 2010 at 11:02 am #

Desperado is the first time I saw Danny Trejo and he was badass. (Also Salma Hayek ‘s first appearance blew me away.)

“And now for your viewing pleasure … The Mistress of the Macabre. The Epitome of Evil. The most sinister woman to dance on the face of the earth. Lowly dogs, get on your knees, bow your heads and worship at the feet of SANTANICO PANDEMONIUM!” – Razor Charlie – from dusk till dawn

amazing, stoked to see this movie for sure.

  35. Burn August 26, 2010 at 12:13 pm #

In Once Upon a Time in Mexico, he was the recipient of the worst line ever written:

“Are you a Mexican or a Mexicant?”

    he replied “A MexiCAN sir!”

    Loved it

Yeah my bad, my favorite Trejo character is actually Machete from Spy Kids, love that dude

  42. Pip August 26, 2010 at 1:38 pm #

Going through his list of work, I did NOT realize he was in Lock Up. Lock up was one of my favorite Stallone vehicles.

But, Trejo was great in Desperado. Psyched about Machete ever since I saw the trailer in Grindhouse.

  43. Rob Nawrocki August 26, 2010 at 1:47 pm #

Danny Trejo is fucking great in just about every role. Even Con Air. I really like all the characters he played in Rob Zombie’s films as well.

I’ve been waiting for MACHETE for a long time! Rodriguez will not fail at this by a long shot.

  44. Kevin Ludwig August 26, 2010 at 2:57 pm #
