Movement Wants You to Bring Your A’s Game

A Facebook group recently launched, encouraging Philadelphians to rally around the Oakland A’s. But why?
See, the Oakland A’s are looking for a new home. Founded in 1901 here in Philadelphia, they’ve moved twice since their inception. Kansas City in 1954, and then off to Oakland in 1968. For those of you non-sporty types, you can read up on their history on Wikipedia. The team wants a new stadium, and Oakland is saying no… so now it’s time for the A’s to consider their options. So why shouldn’t Philadelphia make a play to bring them back home? To the rebuilt Connie Mack stadium?
“This town needs a new underdog,” says J.T. Ramsay, founder of the budding movement. “I can’t imagine such a proud franchise suffering such indignity.”
As of this post, they’ve got a little over two dozen fans, just enough to create a dedicated URL. Expect a full blown website in the coming weeks. Get on this now, and become a fan as this movement surely grows.

Hell to the yes. This appeals to my love of Philadelphia, baseball park hot dogs and history. As a North Philly native, I’d love to see something to uplift that area in this century.
I’m looking for some good peeps to help me launch the website, bringyouraga.me sometime this fall. Be in touch if you or anyone you know is interested in helping to build the movement!
So how much can I ask of the Geekadelphia Voltron on this project?
I think having an American League team in Philly would be a huge. All of the world class American cities have an American league team but us. Bring home the White Elephants!
OMG I’m so ready for this.
Er, I dunno. Professional sports teams cost the city a lot of money, and those of us who don’t really like sports don’t get anything for it – since all the money that sports “bring in” go to sports related businesses, and my understanding is the teams don’t pay much (if anything) in taxes.
Meh.
