Win Tickets to Aqua Teen Hunger Force Live at the Troc!

If Lucha Va Voom on Friday wasn’t enough of a reason to head over to the Trocadero this weekend, Saturday night they are hosting Aqua Teen Hunger Force Live. The show, which features ATHF co-creator Dave Willis, the voice of Meatwad and Carl, and voice actor/comedian Dana Snyder, the voice of Master Shake, looks to be a comedy variety show of epic proportions.

The 2+ hour all-ages show will feature rare and never before seen ATHF clips, live music from their latest album, Have Yourself A Meaty Little Christmas, along with skits featuring both the ATHF and Squidbillies characters. The show will also include Meatwad and Shake onstage (through the puppet wizardry of former Jim Henson designer and fabricator James Wojtal), as well as a Granny puppet from Willis’ redneck squidriffic show.

I’m a huge fan of Aqua Teen Hunger Force and can’t wait to see this. And in true Geekadelphia fashion, we have some free tickets to giveaway to this event, thanks to our friends at the Troc.

All you have to do for a chance to win one of 3 pairs of tickets to the show, is comment with your favorite ATHF character and why. The 3 most entertaining entries will win. If you don’t want to take a chance on missing this show, get your tickets here.

See ya there!

Coffee Talk: Likes, Not Links!

Welcome to Geekadelphia’s weekly discussion column, Coffee Talk, where we talk about the finer topics concerning video games, technology and all the other things you can’t talk about with your slightly-less-geeky friends. Have questions or suggestions? Send an email to geekadelphia@gmail.com or tweet with us. Follow me on Twitter if you’d like to keep this week’s discussion alive.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of social internet juggernaut Facebook, recently announced their updated approach to the web, Open Graph a little over a week ago. To avoid getting bogged down in the web jargon, this is essentially means that Zuckerberg wants Facebook and its user information to be accessible outside of the original website. Does this mean that users’ information will be visible from wherever without consent (you might want to find that tin foil)?

Well, sort of. Profiles will still have the option to be private, but if they wish to share their experiences of the internet outside of Facebook, Zuckerberg’s Open Graph policy will require them to be logged in and be public. How will this work exactly and what will it mean for the future of the web? Since we know you’re just itching to find out, we put it right behind that link down there. See you on the other side.

Zombies & Boomerangs: Production Diary #1

As a lifelong gamer with newfound time constraints, I’ve developed quite the affinity for mobile gaming on my iPhone, and most recently, my lovely iPad. Apple fanboy here, guilty as charged.

Gaming on my iPad consists almost exclusively of Flight Control HD, which offers fast paced, path drawing insanity, perfect for amping up those little lulls in the day. If it’s not that it’s Escape which is a very simple, incredibly satisfying puzzler. My iPhone still sees a lot of Plants vs. Zombies action because who doesn’t love tower defense and zombies? Also, Doodle Jump stays in the mix as I’ll never stop chasing that elusive higher score.

A few weeks ago I decided to embark on an epic quest to break into iPhone game development armed with little more than a passion for games. I’ve partnered up with one of Philly’s ever talented developers, Jake O’Brien, combining into a Voltron-of-sorts to one day make a living in the industry we both love so much.

Our first game revolves entirely around doing something geeks love… killing zombies. Just look at games like Left 4 Dead, or Call of Duty’s popular Nazi zombies mode.

Our game is simple, and revolves entirely around killing zombies with a boomerang. I will be periodically sharing our production experiences in making the game, both good and bad, here on Geekadelphia, and hope you enjoy the journey with me.

Win Tickets to Lucha Va Voom at the Trocadero!

The Mexican Wrestling and Burlesque phenomenon that has swept Los Angeles is coming to Philadelphia this Friday night, May 7th and your friends at Geekadelphia and the Trocadero have you covered. Lucha Va Voom, which is billed as a combination of “sexo y violencia” (sex and violence) is a mixture of Masked Lucha Libre Wrestling, Comedy and Burlesque.

The show consists of high-flying Luchadore acrobatics interspersed with burlesque dancing, and comedy numbers in-between matches. In true luchadore fashion the show promises not only pyrotechnics, but over the top storylines and action. You can check out their website here for more details on the show and performers, but just a heads up, it may be a bit NSFW.

The folks at the Troc are offering a special BUY ONE GET ONE FREE ticket offer for Lucha Va Voom to Geekadelphia readers. All you have to do is click here and enter code LVVPHILLY in the coupon code area for your free ticket.

We also have 3 pairs of tickets to Lucha Va Voom to give away.To win, all you have to do is comment with what your Luchadore name would be, and what your Special Signature Move would be called. Heads up though, this is a 21+ event.

I have been looking forward to this and will definitely be in attendance, so see ya there!

Eye-Fi: Win a 4GB Card & Transfer Photos Wirelessly

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Eye-Fi. All opinions are 100% mine.

UPDATE: CONTEST CLOSED, Congrats to the Winner

Back in November, we teamed up with Eye-Fi to giveaway one of their outstanding wireless SD cards. You responded well to this contest, so dear readers, we’re at it again.

Unfamiliar with the Eye-Fi? This handy little SD card lets you upload photos wirelessly to your computer and/or favorite social networking site, without taking the card out of your camera. The device stores almost three dozen saved wireless networks, so you can actually use it in a lot of places, while at work, home, where ever. As long as you can access a Wi-Fi network, you can transmit your photos online.

It’s a solid product, no doubt about that. Whether you’re uploading photos straight to Facebook or videos to your YouTube channel, you can use it for whatever. Photography sharing sites like Picasa and Flickr also work with the card, and for you OCD types (like me), the Eye-Fi automatically sorts your images by date, in special folders when uploaded to your computer.

Personally, I use a Canon Powershot A480, while other Geeks here on the site take photos with heavy duty SLRs. No matter the camera, this little guy works great, and it’s easy. Might make a good Mother’s Day gift, for the parent (like mine) who still doesn’t grasp how to get pictures onto their computer.

Want to learn more about how it works? Scope out this instructional video.

Alright, now for what you’ve been waiting for. The contest.

We’re giving away a 4GB Eye-Fi SD card. All you have to do is leave a comment here, on this blog post, to enter. Something as simple as “pick me!” will work, but feel free to be more creative. You can also use Twitter to tweet about the Eye-Fi, using the hashtag #eye-fi, with a link back to this blog post. For more in-depth contest rules, click here.

The contest wraps up at 11:59pm on May 21st, only one entry / Tweet per person, please.

Good luck!
