See Your Name in (PECO’s Crown) Lights

Hey all you artsy geeks, listen up.

PECO has teamed up with Philadelphia’s Breadboard / Esther Klein Gallery on a “pilot project to show digital art, video, and animation on their Crown Lights Tower display” starting in July… and you can get your work up there! Check out the rules and how to get involved, below.

Competition Rules:

  • The competition is open to all digital artists & animators residing PA, NJ or DE.
  • Digital works must be no more than 30 seconds in length.
  • Submissions must be original works that have been created in last five years and artists must own the rights to their video submissions.
  • Digital works may be made using any technique, but they must be submitted to the competition in an AVI, MOV or WMV file formats.
  • All work must be formatted for display in exact accordance with PECO Crown Lights dimensions: 360 x 2224 @ 72 dpi.

    Obligatory video geek snark: I don’t know how I’d create a video file at 72dpi (it’s not exactly going to print), but assuming I could, I love the idea that the Crown Lights Tower jumbotron is displaying 72 pixels per inch. Maybe 72 pixels per meter?

    Video standards aside, sounds like a cool contest! Here’s a relevant question for artists who are interested: what are the pixel coordinates of the buildlng’s corners?
