Missed Zombieland? Check out the Flickr Set!

If you weren’t lucky enough to have been able to attend the Zombieland screening Monday night at the Troc, you missed quite the event.  With over 400 people in attendance and quite a few of those dressed as the living impaired, it was an event not soon to be forgotten by those in attendance.  As usual I had my trusty Nikon D40X on hand to take some pics for those of you that couldn’t make it. As you can tell we had some really great zombies come out thanks to the folks over at Philly Zombie Crawl. Some of our own loyal readers came out in undead garb as well, all in the name of free swag and prizes – of which there were plenty of thanks to all of our great sponsors! So thank you again all who came out, and all who participated for making this event such a success.

This will be my last post about our Zombieland Movie Monday Night at the Troc, I promise.

I’ve embedded a Flickr slideshow of the event above. If you don’t have flash, check out the pictures here, on my Flickr account.

Bioshock 2: Special Edition [Unboxing]

I do love the feeling of opening up a brand new, shiny limited edition video game. Assassin’s Creed II came in a nice box, complete with a cool action figure. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 came bundled with those sweet night vision goggles and a steelbook collector’s case. Batman: Arkham Asylum came in an enormous box, with all kinds of neat trinkets.

Now, those limited editions were great and all, but 2K’s special edition of Bioshock 2 really steps it up, and shows what a true collector’s item should be.

Enclosed in the special edition of Bioshock 2, you’ll find a gorgeous, butterfly patterned case, a record with the game’s haunting soundtrack, and a 100+ page hardcover art book, detailing the Bioshock 2 universe. The game also came with three limited edition posters, which I’m looking forward to framing and hanging above my television.

I’ve embedded a Flickr slideshow of the unboxing below. If you don’t have flash, check out the pictures here, on the Geekadelphia Flickr account.

Thank you, 2K. This is just what I wanted.

Coffee Talk: Is the New EGM Ahead of the Curve?

Welcome to Geekadelphia’s weekly discussion column, Cofffee Talk, where we talk about the finer topics concerning video games, technology and all the other things you can’t talk about with your slightly-less-geeky friends. Have questions or suggestions? Send an email to geekadelphia@gmail.com or tweet with us. Follow me on Twitter if you’d like to keep this week’s discussion alive.

What you started heard as anxious rumors and gossip is now reality. Steve Harris, the original founder of Electronic Gaming Monthly, has bought back the rights to the esteemed gaming publication and, as Big Download editor John Callaham speculates, will be returning as soon as next month (can anyone keep the nerd squeal in right now?).

However, what’s most interesting about this announcement are details surrounding EGM‘s web offering that comes with every physical subscription, EGM[i]: The Digital Magazine. Sounds cool? Learn more about it and join us in the rumor mongering — ahem, speculation — after the break! (more…)

Microsoft Student Insider Feature: Ed Meadows + A Chance to Win Free Stuff!

Hopefully some of you vicariously enjoyed my journey through Twitter, but I’ll let you Geekadelphians in on it anyway: I was recently granted an incredible opportunity to visit Microsoft’s Main Campus in Redmond, WA and meet a brilliant bunch of folks involved in the various teams that develop, design and market Microsoft’s newest suite of design tools, Expression Studio 3. So, let’s kick off this feature series with a fine fellow. Ed Meadows, Senior Product Manager on the Expression Web team, revealed some key features of Expression Web 3 and a glance into his not-so-routine life at Microsoft. A little more info on Ed’s daily life at Main Campus and some neat features that designers can find within Expression Web 3 (as well as details on how to win a 60 day trial disc of Expression Studio!) after the jump. Tom Selleck Waterfall Sandwich Meme: Representing Philadelphia

Alright. I love the Internet. But that doesn’t necessarily mean I even remotely understand it. Internet memes are always bring forth the chuckles, and this new one is no difference.

Ah, the Tom Sellect Waterfall Sandwich meme. I first spotted this over on Unbreaded. It’s all in the title, really. Tom Selleck. A Waterfall. A Sandwich. It’s hilarious and makes absolutely no sense.

But you know what does make sense?

The inevitable inclusion of the Philadelphia cheesesteak, wearing a Phillies hat.

Bravo, Tom Selleck Waterfall Sandwich. Bravo.

Free Beer and Twinkies @ Zombieland Monday!

Our Zombieland screening is fast approaching, and I honestly can’t wait! But since this is turning out to be such a special event, the great folks over at the Trocadero are spicing it up a bit. You may recall their usual special for arriving before 6:30pm is a free beer and a bag of popcorn.  But in honor of Zombieland, if you get there before 6:30pm – you get a free beer and a Twinkie!

If you have seen Zombieland you will get the joke, and if you haven’t you will, trust me. Don’t forget to dress up either – we have had a ton of great prizes donated from the likes of Brave New Worlds, Universal Pictures and Lions Gate Films. I hope you all dress up so I can get rid of the boxes of goodies currently filling up my living room; which will make my poor wife very happy. So hopefully we will all survive the coming Snowpocalypse, and celebrate with beer and Twinkies this Monday at 6:30pm. What could be better?

Check out the full size poster after the jump!

Go to Hell on 2.09.10 and Win a Copy of Dante’s Inferno Courtesy of EA Games GAME OVER!

Dante’s Inferno the upcoming action-adventure game from EA Games finally hits the Xbox 360, PS3 and PSP next Tuesday, February 9th. If you’re like me and played the demo… chances are, you can’t wait. The game is very loosely based on Inferno, the first book of Dante Alighieri’s epic poem, The Divine Comedy; with a story adapted by Will Rokos, whom you might know as the writer of the Oscar winning film Monster’s Ball.

In the game you play Dante, a veteran of the Third Crusade who chases his beloved Beatrice into hell and attempts to free her soul from Lucifer. Lucifer, in order to make another attempt to take over the Throne of God, needs to wed a heaven-bound soul to break free of Hell. As Dante you’re armed with Death’s scythe and you must journey through the nine Circles of Hell, kicking ass to save Beatrice. On the way, Dante must face his own sins, his family’s past, and his war crimes, all in gory action well deserving of its M rating.

Don’t have the cash to pick up a copy? Don’t worry, we here at Geekadelphia will be giving away a copy of Dante’s Inferno on the winner’s platform of choice, (Xbox 360 or PS3) but in honor of the game I thought we would mix it up a bit. How do you win this contest? Simply answer this question.

If you could send one person to hell, who would it be and why?

The most entertaining answer will get the game and some other goodies as well. Winner will be picked Friday February 12th, so get to work and good luck! I leave you with the Superbowl Trailer for the game which is getting some flack for its “Go to Hell” tagline.

XBLA Deal of the Week: Splosion Man for $5

So the Xbox Live Arcade ‘Deal of the Week’ started on Monday, and I’m just mentioning it now. Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Twisted Pixel’s awesome platformer is currently up for grabs for 400 MS Points. That’s $5, folks. A favorite title of Geekadelphian / Joystiq’s Ben Gilbert, ‘Splosion Man is incredibly fun, and worth the download.

Because you’re going to need something to keep you busy after Mass Effect 2.

About That Lost Season Premiere…

Don’t live tweet the Lost season premiere tonight.  Nothing good will come of it. You’ll only incur the wrath of the universe if you do. Plus, it would be courteous to those who have avoided any and all sorts of spoilers regarding this final season.  Having said that, if you are trying to avoid any spoilers, avoid twitter and facebook for a few hours tonight. Especially if you happen to live on the west coast.

Just don’t do it.

Lost Season 6 Premieres Tuesday @ 8pm on ABC

We Murdered The Avengers @ Brave New Worlds

Our buddy BRiAN and the great folks at Brave New Worlds have a new show coming up this Friday, February 5th, at their Old City location.  The four artists behind this show have decided to focus their talents on the villains of the Marvel Universe. Their statement below:

Meet the foursome of Spock BUCKTON, Brian Bangs, MEAT BALL and Seanson Kellboy. During the work week, these dopes work in what they like to call “the entertainment for people who like to watch other people ferociously hug on camera… and possibly more” industry and run a hilarious website called Popporn.com. Now, this might sound fine and dandy on paper, but over the years, this industry has taken a toll on them. That’s why, in their off time they have to revert to such childish behavior as faking “Secret Invasions” on each other’s houses and toilet papering each other’s lawns with crappy old Lobo back issues. And, believe it or not, they aren’t half bad at drawing pictures and even painting. Who knew??

Their upcoming show entitled ‘WE MURDERED THE AVENGERS’ will focus on the many villains of the Marvel Universe… especially the deformed ones. They feel that all villains deserve their moment in the spotlight, even if they’re kinda retarded.  And yes, they really did kill The Avengers… that’s why you haven’t seen them around town lately.

Be sure to check these guys out at Brave New Worlds this Friday. Thanks again to BRiAN and don’t forget to check out BNW’s new website  here.
