Not Quite Toynbee Tiles: Tupac Alive in Jamaica

My pal Steve Weinikt is a jack of all trades. He writes hilarious product reviews, takes unbelievable photos, works with the Mural Arts Program, and somehow, in the midst of all that, manages to be one of Philadelphia’s leading experts on Toynbee tiles. Don’t believe me? Dude was on CBS3 talking about them with every Philly geek’s crush, Nicole Brewer.

Recently, during a gchat conversation, Steve revealed to me the hilarious and all too real Tupac Alive in Jamaica tiles. There are two in existence that we know about. One is in Steve’s possession, as it had detached from the road and was falling into the gutter, and the other is still covered up out in West Philadelphia.

Who knows who put these there, but these wanna-be Toynbee tiles have a funny way of popping up all around the city. Like the infamous Stickman / Reflectorman, for example. My pal Ray has the story on that.

Anyone have any info on these mysterious, hip-hop loving tiles? Would love some. Hook it up.

I was wondering why I had a traffic spike. Lol, thanks! I’ve yet to see the Tupac tiles but there is also a new old-school style Toynbee in University City @ 38th & Spruce: http://is.gd/3lhIz
