Monster-Mania Con 13 invades Cherry Hill, New Jersey

If you’re into horror films and television like I am and looking for something to do this weekend, why not drive up to Cherry Hill, New Jersey for Monster-Mania Con 13. Monster-Mania looks to be a small, but promising horror convention and with such guests as James Marsters(Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Angel, and one of my favorite shows Torchwood! And yes, he was also Piccolo in the Dragon Ball Z live action), Michael Biehn(Aliens, The Terminator, The Abyss) and Sid Haig(Kill Bill Vol. 2, Devil’s Rejects and House of 1000 Corpses) the convention looks promising for fans of the genre.  I have to say, I am a huge fan of all the above actors and am have been looking forward to the convention for a couple of weeks now.  Although, I have been reluctant to pre-register for the convention because a proper schedule was only posted within the last few days.

The website promises the convention to be “3 DAYS OF SHEER TERROR!”.  But the schedule posted seems a bit sparse on events and doesn’t seem to take full advantage of the roster of guests listed – which does worry me a bit. They are planning a lot of cast reunions, which are fairly common for horror conventions.  But sadly not all actors present are even involved in panels which seems like a real waste. They will be showing films all weekend, some with introductions by the stars, although it doesn’t say the format in which they will be viewed in either.  I will definitely be stopping by to check it out and I suggest you do too. The convention will be at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Cherry Hill, New Jersey from the 21-23 – Friday to Sunday.  I tried to find a price for tickets at the event but found they had not replaced the advanced tickets sales with that information. But I can tell you, the parking is free.  See ya there!

My wife and I have been to Monster Mania a few times and have to say of the events we’ve been to, it’s the best. Due to the size of the event, it’s much more “intimate”. At other such events, you stand in line for two hours to meet a star, you get shoved in front of them just long enough for them to sign their autograph and then your strongarmed out of the way for the next person before you can say “Hi”.

That’s not the case at Monster Mania. Despite the large crowds always there, you always have time to chat with the stars for a few minutes. Usually on the second or third days, when the crowds have died down, you can wander around and even sit and chat for a good long time with each them.

A couple of years they’ve even had parties on the first night where you can sit and hang with everyone. The first time we were there, at our table was me, my wife, a couple of other folks, George Romero, Eileen Dietz, Bill Moseley & Jeffery Combs. We sat and talked for two hours straight!

Seriously, if you’re a horror fan, you need to be at Monster Mania. I only wish we could get there, but we will be at the next one!

I went to Monster Mania Con either last year or earlier this year… can’t remember. It was pretty fun. Lots of hot goth chicks.
