I got the chance last week to check out Donkey Punch a short film produced by Emmy Award winner Anthony Russo(who is now currently executive producing the upcoming NBC series Community, and known for his work on for Arrested Development) and created by three key players behind the hit TV series The Shield (actor Jay Karnes, writer John Hlavin, and editor Jordan Goldman) the short premiered at the Hollyshorts Festival on August 9th and is currently making the short film festival circuit as you read this.

The Film stars Jay Karnes and Ann Russo, and is described as “a 15 minute short about a very precarious and sexually charged internet date”. I would honestly describe it as watching a car wreck out of the safety of your parent’s car window as you drive by. You know things are going to be gruesome, but you just can’t turn away.  One of my main theories about a good film of any length is it makes you feel something, and this film while being only 15 minutes is quite honestly the most uncomfortable 15 minutes I have had in a while.

This is because the car wreck in question, is quite honestly the most entertaining date from Hell I have ever seen. It’s the kind of date you wish you would overhear at the Olive Garden. The film follows a normal guy innocently enough as he is meeting a girl he met on the internet for the first time. After first finding out she used someone else’s picture for her profile he soon realizes he has ended up on a date with 4chan(if you don’t know what 4chan is, please DO NOT GOOGLE IT some things can never be unseen!). The film really draws you in, with how engaging the insanely witty dialog is and the moments between the two actors throughout the film are. For as short as the film is it definitely leaves an impression on you.

I have to say I really enjoyed this short. It’s very edgy, dark, well written and makes one very happy that they are in a committed relationship. I think it would probably get a NC-17 for the dialog alone, which is probably another reason why I enjoyed it so much. The short definitely lives up to its name and then some, I just can’t stress enough this film IS NOT for the easily offended. Also, in a special deal with the producers of Donkey Punch Geekadelphia readers can get a copy of Donkey Punch for $10 which basically covers the shipping and handling by emailing info@donkeypunchmovie.com. I am pretty sure you can’t see this film any other way and if you haven’t already please check out my interview I did earlier this week I did with Jay Karnes, if your curious about finding out more about this great little short.

    John,

I just googled you to find out where you were. Too bad I missed you in LA. I’ve been out there since 2000 and recently returned to Kent to help my parents with health issues. I’m writing a script now and hope to produce it and star.

It would be great to talk to you again.
