Philly’s Quirk Books Announces New Title: Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters
Quirk recently announced the newest title in their Quirk Classics series… Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters. Written by Jane Austen and Ben H. Winters, this is the follow up to their first Quirk Classics release, the New York Times Bestseller Pride & Prejudice & Zombies, which we here at Geekadelphia loved. Seriously. I brought it into my World Literature classes, and read passages for my students. It was incredible.
The book will be in store September 15th, and is currently available for pre-order. Yes, September 15th is the same day the new Dan Brown book comes out, but guess who doesn’t care? This guy. Quirk editor Jason Rekulak explains why they went with sea monsters for this new mash-up.
“A couple of publishers are crashing Jane Austen vampire novels that will no doubt capitalize on the success of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, and there were certainly plenty of people who urged me to do the same. But I didn’t want to go out with the one-millionth vampire novel that’s going to be published this year. I know there are a lot of vampire fans, but the genre feels exhausted to me. Whereas Sea Monsters allowed us to draw inspiration from so many rich and diverse sources—most obviously Jules Verne novels and Celtic mythology, but also Jaws, Lost, Pirates of the Caribbean, even SpongeBob Squarepants! I think Pride and Prejudice and Zombies fans were counting on us to deliver something original, and I don’t think they will be disappointed.”
Make sure you watch the hilarious trailer for the book above. We’ll be reviewing the book here on Geekadelphia shortly before it comes out. So stay tuned.
