Wizard World Philadelphia is next weekend, and we here at Geekadelphia are starting to gear up for what is promising to be a really great con. One event that I am really looking forward to is an advance screening of Chris Nohan’s live-action film adaptation of Production I.G’s Blood: The Last Vampire, a month before the July 10th release date! Regular readers of Geekadelphia will recall me writing about this back in May and news of this screening is starting to circulate on the various anime and manga blogs. This sneak preview is a Philadelphia exclusive and will be on Friday June 19th at 7 pm in room 201A.

More after the Jump!

The synopsis for those of you not familiar from the Wizard World Website:

Born to a human father and a vampire mother, Saya has for centuries been a loner, obsessed with using her samurai skills to rid the world of vampires, all the while knowing that she herself can survive only on blood like those she hunts. When she is sent to an American military base in Tokyo by the clandestine organization for whom she works, Saya immediately senses that this may be her opportunity to finally destroy Onigen, the evil patriarch of all vampires.

Using her superhuman strength and her sword, she begins to rid the base of its evil infestation in a series of spectacular and elaborate showdowns. However, it is not until she forms her first human friendship in centuries with the young daughter of the bases general that Saya learns her greatest power over Onigen may well be her ability to make a human connection.

Renowned producers Bill Kong (CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON; HERO) and Abel Nahmias (11 COMMANDMENTS, LA BEUZE) team up with director Chris Nahon (KISS OF THE DRAGON) on this English language vampire slaying adventure, where the hope of the world rests in the hands of a beautiful young woman.

If that hasn’t sold you on this flick I don’t know what will. On July 10th the movie will then open in Berkeley, Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Chicago, Cambridge, Dallas, Seattle, and Washington, D.C. The film already opened in Japan last month (under the title Last Blood). See ya there!
