Time - the one thing we can't make more of. I want to do so many different things but I know there's no possible way to get it all done. Sometimes, I look at the list of all these awesome things I want to try out and experiment with, and realize to even dip my toe into a fraction of them would require three lifetimes. This adds to the urgency to work on them, but that adds to my overall stress level, and then ... well, it just takes me right to the brink of sanity.

What sends me to the brink? trying to find 20 minutes to write my novel 200 words at a time. Maybe if i can get committed, I will be able to finish it.

Working in Old City sends me to the brink daily. Not only do I have to deal with evermore d-bag bars that attract the Arthur Kade Types, there's the thousands of tourists descending upon the neighborhood now that the weather is warm. There's the school groups that take up the entire sidewalk. Groups of foreign travelers snapping photos of Independence Hall constantly. Tourist families with their maps, walking at a snail's pace. Excuse me, I HAVE TO WORK HERE!

What sends me to the brink... how about a depressed wife who screams and complains every night about her job and renting a house, after passing up several job opportunities and three different house purchases (one of which we went to small claims court to get our earnest money back) within the past five or more years!

All this while... speaking of sleep depravation, trying to get two twin baby girls to sleep, an 11 year old boy to go to bed before 10:00 pm, and still maintain some time for yourself to read a highly anticipated, psychological thriller. If I'm not quite to the brink yet I soon shall be!

Sleep. Its all about the sleep - or the lack thereof. On an average day, I'm about the most amiable guy going. But when my co-workers start disappearing. Going on vacation. Catching the latest bug.

When the boss needs us to get that upgrade done before people get into the office. Or after one of our locations has closed up shop for the day.

When the latest videogame, or TV obsession, or Twitter flood keeps me up way too late. Well, I don't get sleep. And then I get cranky. Catch me on a good day and I'll drop what I'm doing to give you a hand. Catch me when I'm sleep deprived - and I might just bite that hand right off.

Know what else keeps me up at night ? Think that people might be missing out on one of the tightest reads of the summer. Why are you reading this ? Go pick up the aforementioned Personal Effects: Dark Art, by JC Hutchins. Do it now. Don't worry. I won't lose any sleep over it.
