E.T. Home Grown
Q: How many letters are in the alphabet?
A: 24, because ET went home!
What If E.T. Was One of Us? That’s what Mallory Politz’ has been asking these days… and she’s chosen an awesome, awesome way to figure it out …that may or may not have resulted in the birth of my new fav local blog, E.T. Close Encounters.

Bianca: So, who are you really, ET?
Mallory: I’m just an E.T. lover with a desk job, so I have plenty of time to dream stuff up. In addition to birthing E.T. Close Encounters, I have recently learned to sew and to play the ukulele. I also enjoy long walks on the street, nutella, and The Internet.
Bianca: And if you don’t mind me asking, what brought ET to The City of Brotherly Love?
Mallory: I bought the E.T. mask for Halloween a few years ago and didn’t get my costume together in time, so I just wore the mask with a hoodie. I walked around this party, drinking beer (with a straw) and hanging out like anyone else. I had the idea to take photos of E.T. doing regular-people stuff. I didn’t know what I’d do with it. I convinced one of my friends to take the photos, and every time we went out, people loved it and would want to be in the pictures. Senior citizens and five year olds alike –everyone knows E.T! So of course I had to get a website and a facebook to direct people to so they could see the photos… and here we are! I actually carry around E.T. business cards, just in case.
Bianca: First: I totally want one of your E.T. business cards. Second: Where should we keep our eyes peeled for ET this summer?
Mallory: [You can] catch E.T. in Ocean City, NJ next week! E.T. in a bikini? Maybe..! This summer, we’ll be hitting all the traditional Philly sights, romping around Old City and up to the art museum (Rocky and E.T. are two of my very favorite things!) We’ll also be taking a trip up to the Big Apple, where the photo ops are endless.
Bianca: Awesome. But, well.. if E.T. goes home, will you let us know?
Mallory: I’d like to think that E.T. is already home, and my gig is similar to that of a Mall Santa Claus. Somewhere out there, E.T. is on his home planet, studying botany, and I’m here keeping his spirit alive.
Bianca: WAIT… Santa’s not real? We love your blog– thanks for chatting with Geekadelphia, Mallory!

You can follow E.T. Close Encounters on Twitter, friend E.T. on Facebook, or check the photo collections on Flickr.
