The Great Geekadelphia E3 Video Round-Up

The phenomenon known as E3 came and went last week, and what a phenomenon it was. The Big Three had a terrific presence, and this year marked a return to form for E3. I couldn’t have asked for more. Something has felt “off” ever since the ESA lobotomized the show in 2007. But this year, things felt right again, and even though I couldn’t attend E3, I was able to experience the event vicariously through G4. Let me tell you, I could still feel the energy and excitement even from almost 2,800 miles away.

I’ve gathered some of the best trailers from E3 and posted them below, so ride the (more…) wave, scope ‘em out, and let me know what you’re excited for in the comments section.

Microsoft

I’ve nicknamed Microsoft’s press conference: “How Many Celebrities Can We March Across the Stage?” It starred awkward moments from: Paul and Ringo from The Beatles, Felicia Day, Tony Hawk, Stephen Spielberg, and Hideo Kojima. Even though Microsoft relentlessly bashed how hip to the scene they are into my face, their press conference was still my favorite. This may have something to do with all the new video game footage they rolled out, which included trailers for Alan Wake, Modern Warfare 2, Left4Dead 2, and my personal favorite: Shadow Complex.

Nintendo

Fortunately for Nintendo, they managed not to drop the ball this year like they so thoroughly did in 2008. Nonetheless, they desperately need to take a seminar on how to pace press conferences. Long stretches of snore fests about the Wii Vitality Sensor or how much money they’re making (so much!) were thankfully punctuated by announcements like New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Golden Sun DS, Super Mario Galaxy 2, and Metroid: Other M. All-in-all, a pretty good lineup for Wii enthusiasts.

Sony

I’ve been putting off purchasing a PlayStation 3 in hopes that Sony would announce a price drop at some point in 2009. Unfortunately, I didn’t get my wish during E3. Worse yet, Sony pulled out all the stops during their press conference and showcased a mess of game demos that has me practically drooling in anticipation. Okay, okay… I am drooling, thanks to that new Uncharted 2: Among Thieves footage. Between Uncharted 2, God of War III, and The Last Guardian there’s no way I’m not picking up a PS3 this Fall. I can already hear my wallet whimpering.

If you’re anything like me, you’ve no doubt changed your pants two or three times by now. This collection of videos proves one thing: it is in fact possible to have multiple nerdgasms in a row. Just be sure to take it nice and easy for the next few days. You’re going to need your strength come this Fall.
