The Anatomy of an AT-AT: Great Star Wars Shirt

at_at_t_shirt

Ah, Ruby Red, you’ve done it again. Your Star Wars parody shirts and all around geek chic wear never cease to amaze and amuse. The Anatomy of an AT-AT shirt is simply brilliant.

Since the Dark Side started using genetically modified walkers, they found many had to visit the Imperial Veterinary Clinic of Osteology suffering with acute pain in their hip joints. X-rays revealed their skeleton structure was just not strong enough to maneuver wearing those heavy boots. No amount of Cod Liver oil would ease their pain.

You can pick this shirt up over at his store on Red Bubble for about $25. Awesome.

Peelander-Z Live! at the Khyber Tomorrow Night

Looking for something to do Friday night after the Chuck Palahniuk signing how about seeing some Japanese Punk from the “Japanese Action Comic Punk band hailing from the Z area of Planet Peelander”, Peelander-Z at the Khyber!

Peelander Z perform on stage in color co-ordinated power ranger like costumes, and did I mention they also like to dabble in professional wrestling? I have seen these guys perform at a couple of anime conventions and it is truly a site to behold with kung-fu fighting, punk rock music and human bowling how much more can you ask for?

The show is scheduled to start at 9pm costs $10 and is 21 and over, get more info here.

Ms. Pacman Nike SB Quickstrike

One thing you might have noticed on this blog is our fondness for video game themed footwear. Well I thought I would throw in my 2 cents in with the Ms. Pacman Nike SB Quickstrike. Nike has been known to artfully combine video games, pop-culture and sneakers in a classy and elegant way that doesn’t particularly scream product tie-in. Which is extremely rare in this day and age. They have done this with Skate or Die, Atari Game Select and Pee Wee Herman, yes that Pee Wee Herman. Check out the insole artwork for a giggle.

The color ways scream 80′s with the pink and loud fluorescent lime green. It reminds you of the arcades of the 80’s and at the same time makes you wonder where your hover board is. They are listed as coming soon and you can pre-order here. So save up your quarters, keep an eye out because these won’t be around for long.

Star Trek Computer: Now As Desktop Wallpaper

Hidden inside of Lifehacker’s awesome pool of custom desktops, is this outstanding Star Trek Desktop wallpaper. I think I like this one better than the Spidermac wallpaper I came across a week or so ago. Custom made, with a bunch of awesome widgets.

This is the perfect wallpaper for those of you psyched about the upcoming Star Trek film. Looks like I’ll have to take down my desktop wallpaper of Chris Pine as Kirk Zoe Saldana as Uhura.

Katamari Damacy Meets Shadow of the Colossus

This piece of video game art is absolutely stunning for one key reason. No, it’s not because it’s Shadow of the Collosus and Katamari blended together. It’s because it was created in MS Paint.

MS FREAKING PAINT!!!

This drawing was created by Simon Andersen. He has an outstanding Deviant Art gallery, full of other great video game inspired art. Have a look.

Star Trek: The Exhibition at the Franklin

With J.J. Abrams’s Star Trek almost upon us. (I already have my IMAX tickets!) It’s no surprise that they are capitalizing on this in any way shape and form. After all, that is the purpose of a summer blockbuster. (Wolverine Xtreme cappuccino anyone?) So after your done watching the new movie why not go to the Franklin Institute or as the kids call it now simply The Franklin and see Star Trek: The Exhibition. They will also be showing Star Trek on IMAX there as well.

Star Trek: The Exhibition features the world’s most comprehensive collection of authentic Star Trek objects and is supposed to “transport visitors into parallel universes of the future and past. This 12,500 foot exhibition, an amalgamation of all five television and ten film series spanning over 40 years, is the ultimate opportunity to connect with iconic Star Trek moments and characters, while celebrating the creative spirit of science fiction and science that gave rise to many of today’s modern marvels. From the Next Generation Bridge, to the Engine Room, to sitting in Kirk’s original captain’s chair, Star Trek: The Exhibition not only relives the legacy but invites you to be a part of the Enterprise!”

Sounds like they will have something for all Trekkies new and old. If this is anything like the Star Wars one they did last year it should not be a disappointment and trust me I will be checking this out as well. I am a big Star Wars fan but I have a fondness for the original series and the Next Generation.

The event will be running from May 16 to September 30 so you have plenty of time to check it out. But this is a ticketed event like the Star Wars so get your tickets here and hopefully they will have a tribble petting zoo.

Evil Ben Franklin: Rejected Character in Henry Hatsworth

Video game concept artist Jay Epperson featured a few characters and bosses who didn’t make the final cut for the Henry Hatsworth in the Puzzling Adventure Nintendo DS video game… one of which happens to be a Philadelphian.

Ah, Evil Ben Franklin. Someday. Someday, your time will come. You and Steampunk Lincoln could rule the world.

Pac Man in Real Life – Amazing. I need to do this around Old City.

This is Sparta – Best. Caution Sign. Ever. Full size image on the Flickr page.

Partyboat Fail – Make sure you listen to this with your sound on. Nothing like watching a bunch of drunk fools on a party boat sink… to the soundtrack of Titanic.

Puppy Dressed as Link – Adorable puppy, probably hates his life.

Best Coffee Shop Ever – Facebook prohibited? Excellent.

Zombie Obama – It was really only a matter of time.

Nerd Merit Badges – Awesome! We won a Boing Boing badge a few days ago, thanks to Dustin.

Today in WTF: Sarah Palin’s Twitter Background

A beautiful Alaskan landscape, some stars and stripes floating in the background, and Sarah Palin’s ghost rising from the mist, much like Donny Most.

Nice job there, Sarah Palin. It’s nice to see you’re experimenting with Photoshop for the first time.

Sarah Palin’s Twitter @ … well, Twitter.

Coffee Talk: Has Nintendo Blazed the Trail for Future Gaming?

wii-motionplus

We’re sure many of you know, the internet is surging with rumors that both Sony and Microsoft may be developing new motion controllers and peripherals, respectively. A recent Sony patent, which looks a bit too similar to the Wii’s setup, aims to capitalize improve on Nintendo’s already popular control scheme as well as the upcoming Wii MotionPlus. Microsoft, on the other hand, apparently wants to change the way games are played on the Xbox 360 altogether with full body and sound recognition.

Now, this type of thing happens all the time. Someone invents a product that innovates an industry and, soon enough, products that improve upon the original are developed and released by competitors. Nintendo knows this pattern all too well. With that said, are the other combatants of the console wars simply adapting to a common enemy or is the industry truly on to something here? Think about this as you take a quick glance into our possible future after the break.

What if Blade was a Japanese School Girl?

blood043009

If there is one thing I have learned from watching anime and Japanese movies for the last 17 years of my life it’s this, if you add bad-ass Japanese school girls to any plot it equals epic win. Especially where they have to seriously lay the smack down. Speaking of which Sony Pictures has just acquired the domestic rights to release the live action Blood: the Last Vampire movie. For those of you not in the know Blood was originally released as an animated OVA or original video animation by production I.G in back in 2000.

The Story of Blood:the last vampire is something like this, it’s the story of Saya who is a 400 year old “halfling”(Father was human and mother was a vampire) who on the outside appears to be your average 17 year old Japanese school girl with an affinity for samurai swords. In her spare time she hunts vampires because, due to her condition vampires are the only things she can feed upon and with her epically honed over 400 years samurai sword skills she shows Blade a thing or two. The story takes place near a US military base in Japan during the Vietnam war era.

The film is directed by Chris Nahon who also directed Empire of the Wolves, and Kiss of the Dragon and the movie is surprisingly english language. It stars Gianna whom you might remember from the korean movie My Sassy Girl(yes, this also had a bad American remake).

The film will be released this summer and honestly I can’t wait. Check out the trailer and website here.
