Domo-kun Comes to 7-11!

domojump1

In one of those rare moments of a promotion that actually makes sense. 7-11 America my favorite supplier of all things sugary and sweet, has teamed with Dark Horse Comics and Tokyopop to launch a Domo-branded Slurpee drink during a six-week promotional campaign starting October 1st.  The promotion is aimed to generate awareness for America’s first Domo DVD, which will contain the online shorts, the Japanese commercials, and other extras.

If you have been anywhere near the anime section in Suncoast Pictures, FYE or any retailer that sells anime or manga, you have no doubt gazed upon the glorious visage that is Domo-Kun. Domo-Kun started life as the mascot of Japan’s NHK television station, and due to some promo shorts made for the station that warmed the hearts of Otaku everywhere he became an internet phenomenon. You might have also seen him in commercials and shorts for Target and Nickelodeon.

More and some Domo Shorts after the Jump

The Slurpee in question will be Apple-flavored  in an exclusive brown-flocked cup currently under secret development. Why apple flavor you ask? “Because Domo doesn’t like apples. That way you don’t have to worry about Domo stealing your Slurpee.” 7-11 is also thinking about other tie-ins such as straws with detachable fuzzy Domo figurines “in hip hop and wrestling costumes” and a Domo Attack! energy drink. Tokyopop will also be offering a sample version of its Domo comic book at some locations.

My wife will be pleased, as I can add to my sizeable collection of collectible Slurpee cups. Domo will certainly fit in with Incredible Hulk, Terminator, Wolverine, Iron Man, and Spider-Man.

I thought Domo was poop. Was I wrong? I know that Japanese people like toys that look like poop. Quick roundup: http://www.blogissues.com/2007/11/19/the-japanese-and-poo-still-going-strong/

    Color me perplexed.
