King Leonidas Sackboy: This Is Spar… Little Big Planet

Alright, total honesty? I’ve never played Little Big Planet. Nor am I a fan of the overpriced Playstation 3. However I am obsessed with the Sackboy character. It’s freaking adorable and impossible not to like. So whenever Maggie Wang posts another custom-made Sackboy craft, you better believe I’m posting about it here.

Maggie Wang’s recent craft, a King Leonidas Sackboy, is definitely my favorite of her past creations, which include a Prince of Persia and Hellboy. Here’s a bit about the creation process.

I went with an antique brass tone zipper for him, and crocheted his hair and beard freehand in one piece. The removable helm was made in three separate pieces: cap, a wraparound piece that included the front crown and cheek guards, and the plume, which is further stiffened with black felt and the selective use of a glue gun.

His shield was crocheted with a double thickness of yarn for more stability using a larger hook. The cloak was made from a nice stretch knit with a lot of drape and tied with red bias tape. He’ll be getting a proper spear made from a painted bamboo skewer with a polymer clay spearhead tonight to finish his look.

Seriously Maggie, I know you take commissions, and I am going to take full advantage of that in the near future.
