Hands-On Preview: Flower for the Playstation 3
Needless to say, Tim and I are having a great time at the New York Comic Con. Sony helped fuel our fun by inviting us to a fancy cocktail hour (video to follow) featuring several excellent upcoming PS3 titles, including the soon-to-be-released Flower, which drops on February 12th.
We shot a quick hands-on video, and hope you like what you see as much as we did. Flower is an absolutely beautiful game. Vibrant colors and wonderfully organic controls make this a MUST download when it hits the PSN.
I highly recommend visiting the official page on the Playstation website, just to get a real taste of the bright colors in the game. They’ve got some excellent screenshots.
8static February
This Saturday is another wizard 8static show, and TheHacktory had lined up some keen acts once again.
For those living in a closet, or you parents basement, or a nosebleed high-rise in downtown, here’s the deal. 8static is Philadelphia’s own monthly chiptunes event. You don’t have to go to NYC or San Fran. to get some of the best 8bit music in the country. You only have to get as far as Studio 34 (at 4522 Baltimore Ave).
Saturday night’s lineup includes Nullsleep, some Cheap Dinosaurs, NYC’s Starscream and Peter Swimm. And that’s just on audio. For visuals Paris Treantafeles and outpt will be creating visuals together along with Dan Winckler.
Saturday grab your gear, turn off the PS3 and get out to 8static. It starts at 8, so you can still get to the next party (or get home to sleep) when it’s done.
Brand New Look, Same Old Geeks

Oh! You noticed!
Yeah, we’ve made some changes around here, and we hope you like them. A shiny new template for one. Tim’s been working on this for a while now, and it looks great. We’ve still got some kinks and bugs to work out, so stay with us. If you catch any errors or have any suggestions, please, let us know!
Tim and I are on our way to the Comic Con in New York City right now. On today’s itinerary, we’ve got a cocktail hour with Sony, where they will be showcasing a bunch of new games, like InFamous and Fat Princess. According to the folks organizing it, there’s going to be a tinted SUV with “Playstation” written on it, waiting to pick us up at 3:45. Freaking. Awesome. We’ll have a video of that, no doubt.
Also, the new Futurama movie makes it’s world premiere. Perhaps a review is in order?
Ah, and we get to preview Prototype, an awesome game we are quite excited about.
Stay tuned kids. We’ll be blogging through the weekend. And welcome to Geekadelphia V3. Stronger. Faster. Geekier.
Stores Robbed With Klingon Sword

I know very little of Star Trek, but I know what Klingon’s are. Everyone knows what a Klingon is.
In one of those stories that can only be described as “Huh!?“, a man in Colorado has robbed two convenience stores with a Klingon Sword; a “Batleth.” What’s interesting is that the description of the weapon used in the robberies was identified by the two clerks. Both of them apparently knew the sword came from Star Trek, as well as it’s correct name. Thankfully, the clerks were not harmed during the robberies.
The incidents occurred within a half hour of each other and the suspect has not yet been caught. Where’s Thor when you need him?

Papercraft: Fold School Heroes

Aw. How cute. Classic, old school gaming papercraft toys. Pong is just precious.
You can download the template to print these out and make yourself, over at Marshall Alexander’s official website. This is definitely going to give me something to do during my lunch break at work, and on the way to Comic Con tomorrow. What? Talk to Tim? Hah! What a silly suggestion.
Enjoy!
1UP Meetup at New York Comic Con

New York Comic Con, veritably the nerd mecca, runs from February 6-8. Will any Geekadelphians be attending? Damn right! Not so much because we’re huge comic fans but because of the impressive gaming exhibit — the game industry presence at the NYCC is 50% larger this year! Furthermore, Garnett Lee and Tina Sanchez of 1Up.com, announced plans for a meetup!
Head over to the Stitch Bar & Lounge on Saturday, February 7th, from 7 ’til 10PM. You can read up on all the details over on Tina’s blog, here.
Also, let us know if any of you other Geekadelphians plan to show up so we can toss one back and high-five like only The Todd can.
Some killer icons in the are set to appear at NYCC, including Joss Whedon, the cast of Fringe, Adam and Andy Kubert, Bruce Timm, Gabe and Tycho from Penny Arcade, N’Gai Croal, Stephen Totilo… the list goes on. And on. And on. Check out the full guest list for yourself. Hope to see some of you there!
Morristown Man Clocks a Million Dings on Cowbell App
Reader TJ Nicolaides, sent over this awesome YouTube video link the other day. His father-in-law managed to clock in one million dings on the iPhone Cowbell application.
I pass along to you this story of courage and daring: my father-in-law recently downloaded the updated “Cowbell” application for the Apple iPhone, which included a WORLD RANKING SYSTEM for number of “hits” on the “cowbell”.
He uploaded this video earlier this evening, after solidifying his first-place lead with 1 MILLION “Cowbell” “hits” and retiring as the WORLD CHAMPION.
Bravo! I didn’t even know such an application existed on the iPhone. Tim, why don’t you have this yet? It even features Christopher Walken (yes, THE Bruce Dickinson) demanding more cowbell. Awesome.
New York Comic Con: Geekadelphia Gets Psyched

Well, it’s almost here. The New York Comic Con. And us Geekadelphians are packing up and shipping out to New York City for the entire weekend, to cover an array of fun, geeky things.
For the most part, we’re going to try to be professional about this. Walk around with our video camera, interview select people, ask deep, interesting questions… you know, legit journalism stuff. We’ve got interviews scheduled with some great comic book artists and video game developers, and we are very excited to bring you all some fresh, unique content.
However, I make no guarantees that I won’t throw myself at Joss Whedon. Pleeeease can we get a Serenity II?
My picks? The world premiere of the new Futurama movie, Futuruma: Into the Wild Green Yonder, is definitely at the top of my list. An opportunity to see a Futurama movie on a large, theatrical screen? Count me in. I also plan on previewing upcoming titles from Atari, notably Ghostbusters and the new Chronicles of Riddick, as well as titles from EA, such as the Godfather II. Ah, and let’s not forget the panel (and signing!) with Penny Arcade.
Planning to come to the Comic Con? Let us know. We’ll hang out, buy you a drink, and take a photo of you for on the blog.

It’s a long and detailed read, but do yourself a favor and set some time aside to really learn what motivated the most emotionally charged plot twists this show has ever had to offer.
Today in Things I Want To Buy My Girlfriend: Hamburger Dress

Wow. Super talented crochet artist Joy Kampia has a wealth of food inspired dresses and outfits on her official website, but this hamburger dress is easily the best. Though I’m sure the gals at Open Source Cupcakes would dispute that, what with this pasty inspired donut necklace. Yum!
The delicious looking hamburger dress will go perfectly with the hamburger bed I plan to purchase when my girlfriends moves to Philadelphia. Honey, what do you think?
Update: She just broke up with me.
