Huge Super Mario Bros Cross Stitch

huge_mario_crossstitch

Wow! Check out this epically huge Super Mario Bros. cross stitch. Ignore the disgusting Diet Coke. According to Rob, whose girlfriend made this for him as a Christmas gift, the piece…

…is fantastically awesome and measures 18″ x 16″. It is based off a screen shot of world 1-1 with few more things added to make it interesting…

Fantastically awesome is right! Rob, your girlfriend is a keeper.

You can check out some more photos of the cross stitch on Rob’s Flickr page. He’s got some nice, close-up shots that really show off the detail.

Experience the Star Wars Renaissance

star-wars-art

star-wars-art-2

Seriously, I can’t get enough of Worth 1000′s Photoshop contests. Their last Star Wars contest, The Fine Art of Star Wars, was fantastic. And now, that theme is back.

The contest sought to “rectify the art world’s mistake by placing Star Wars characters, items, vehicles and scenes into classic art works. Paintings, tapestries and sculptures [were] allowed.”

Have a look and a laugh.

Hasbro Unveils Transformers 2 Toys: Cue the disappointment

soundwave1Don’t get me wrong, I know they’re trying to preserve a good bit of the G1 characters, and that this is supposed to be a darker chapter in the series of movies… but holy frack, I will not be able to hide my disappointment towards the newly conceived Soundwave  “look”.  He’s my favorite Transformer of all time, so forgive me for being overly critical.  Considering he’s one of most sinister and menacing characters of the Decepticons, I would have expected the updated look to be this complex, and yes, in the 80′s he was no more than a mere boombox (which was why he was so freaking fun to play with)…but what the hell is he now!?

I suppose I should reserve any more judgment until after I see the film (which reportedly has been moved up 2 days from the original release date, to June 24th 2009 instead of June 26th.)

Here’s a gallery of the rest of them, for your consideration.  As far as feedback, what do you think of the new Soundwave?

Want: Giant Bear Sleeping Bag

The Great Bear

I’m unsure of what to say regarding this monstrous (but beautiful) sleeping bag.  Apparently it’s the brainchild of artist Eiko Ishizawa, and it totally rocks.  I couldn’t even tell you what I would use a sleeping bag for at this point, but I must find a way to have one of these.

Pixel Cookies: How To Make ‘Em

pixel_cookies_space_invaders

Flickr user SeattleJonman (may we call you Jon?) has created an excellent step-by-step walk through on how to make pixelated cookies, using… get this… a Playdough Fun Factory kit. Neat!

You can check out the step by step guide here on his Flickr.

Thanks for the tip, John!

Life in New York City: In Lego?

nyc_legos

nyc_legos_3

Tim , John, and a plethora of other readers sent this to me a while ago, but I never quite got around to posting it up. Shame on me, because Christoph Niemann’s interpretation of New York City through Lego is absolutely incredible, and will certainly brighten your day.

I’d love to see someone in Philadelphia do the same. A lot of these could already apply to living here in Philly, especially this one. I swear, that perfectly tells the story of my daily walk through Rittenhouse Square on my way to work.

Enjoy, and be sure to check out Christoph’s official website. The little stick figure in the upper right corner dances.

Zebra & Dolphin: BFFs

zebra_dolphin_bffs

Caught this AP photo linked over on Neatorama. This is just precious, and I had to share it.

In this photo and caption provided by Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Beauregard, an 8-month-old male Grants zebra is greeted by Brandy, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin while out on a daily walk around the park at Six Flags Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo, Calif., Tuesday, Oct. 23, 2007. Beauregard was hand-reared at the park and takes daily strolls around the 135-acre park.

Aw.

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Pride and Prejudice and ZombiesPride and Prejudice and Zombies features the original text of Jane Austen’s beloved novel with all-new scenes of bone-crunching zombie action.”
That’s what it says on their publisher’s (Quirk Books) website, and it’s been causing a stir around the internet months before the actual release. There are also 20 fantastic new illustrations in the style of C.E. Brock (the original Pride and Prejudice illustrator) that will surely captivate new and old fans of the classic regency romance.  The Quirk Books people are great, we met up with some of them at New York Comic Con just last weekend and found out that they operate out of Philadelphia (old city, to be precise).
You can expect to be a proud owner of this title on June 1st 2009. While the official website has no way of preordering it, Amazon does.  Be sure to check out their other titles too… some of them are definately worth mentioning, like How To Tell if Your Boyfriend Is The Antichrist and Christopher Walken A to Z: The Man The Movies The Legend

Leaked Transformers 2 Trailer

This trailer is scheduled to be released today, along with some particular Friday the 13th movie releases, but CrunchGear got their hands on a full leaked version that can only serve to whet my appetite for Megan Fox crashin’ thrashin’ robots.

Update: You can see an HD version of this preview here.

Update Again: If you step through the video slowly, you’ll see Arcee (the female Autobot) at 00:55 chasing after what looks like Sideswipe.

Happy Valentine’s Day From Geekadelphia: Ox Born With Heart Shaped Patch

heart_ox

Aw!

Nineteen-day-old male ox Heart, born with a heart-shaped marking on his forehead, relaxes at Yamakun Farm in Fujisawa, near Tokyo, Japan on Sunday, Feb. 8, 2009. Farm owner Kazunori Yamazaki, 51, said, “Good timing for Valentine['s Day].”

That is straight up precious. I suddenly have Heart Shaped Box in my head, only I’m replacing Box with Ox.

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone. Have a great weekend.

Playstation 3 Controller Soaps

playstation_3_soap

You know, I really wanted to make a snarky joke about these Playstation 3 controller soaps. Maybe something about them being overpriced, just like the PS3. But alas, I’ve got nothin’. Because these clever soaps, by Digital Soaps, are only going to run your pockets about $7 on Etsy.

They come in an array of scents and colors, from the pictured orange (grapefruit jasmin) to the blue (blackberry) and pink (dragon’s blood?!).

Have a look!

Corporeal’s Halo Theme: Amazing

OMG. Best. Halo theme rendition. Ever.

Meet Corporeal. You may have heard of these guys, or even seen this video, back in 2007 when they played at E3. I however, have not. So I’m sharing it with the internet once again.

Hear that choir playing in the beginning? That’s being played with a guitar synth, and an electric drum kit handles all the orchestra percussion sounds from the original theme song. You can download the MP3 on their official website.

These talented kids made this video back when they were high school seniors. Unbelievable. Bravo.
