Deliciously Geeky Pool Table

The G1 Pool Table

We rarely write about this sort of gaming, but I feel that this pool table deserves some recognition for it’s completely kickass design.  It’s the brainchild of industrial designer Craig Nottage, the product of his senior design project, and he’s turned his idea into a reality by starting his own company to build and sell it.

Somehow he’s managed to fine-tune the resistance level of the glass/resin top to match that of traditional felt tables.  The result is this sleek, futuristic design that fogs our glasses and makes us drool.

When Geekadelphia has offices in Center City one day, I will do my very best to ensure that we have this in our lounge area.  It’s totally cheap, at AUS $40,000.  I’m sure we can get Eric to cover it.

“If you do happen to have the coin for this table, you’ll get some pretty tricked-out features; most notably, the magical (and patented) “Vitrik” playing surface that mimics a felt-covered table. And instead of slate, you have “toughened glass” that’s apparently four to six times stronger than conventional glass.”

I’m sure part of the challenge in designing it was making sure the surface was tough enough to withstand the powerful forces present in any pool match :)
