8-Bit Necklaces

galaga-necklace

Wow! You can pick up some seriously nice video game inspired necklaces off of Etsy seller Constantly Cute for $15 a pop.

She also has several machine gun inspired necklaces in her sales and current shop. I’m more a fan of these 8-bit jams though, especially the little villain from Dig Dug.

8static

2009! A new yearA New Hope, and a new set of 8static chiptune shows.   Philadelphia 8bit/chiptune/demo scene is stepping it up a notch, and is now running 8static shows monthly.

The first show is going to be this very Saturday (Jan 10th) at Studio34. The show starts around 7:30, but if you show up at 6:30 you can catch a talk by Animalstyle on how to get started in the scene.

Or just show up at 7:30 to rock out with 8GB, Anamanaguchi, Animalstyle and Rhinostrich. Visuals (of course) will be generated live on-the-spot by VBLANK and NO CARRIER during the show.

It’s $5 if you pay ahead at the 8static site or bring a flyer with you (hint: try printing one out yourself, but don’t tell anyone I told you) or $8 at the door. Every penny goes straight to the artists.

Seven Random Things About Geekadelphia

seven-random-things

Reader Steven Winkler tagged us in his Seven Random Things post, and you know what, we decided to play along. Why? Because it’s the Internet, and we like to have a good time. So here are seven random things about the Geekadelphia crew you likely didn’t know.

1. Pets - All us have a small animal in our lives. Tim has two bunnies, one of whom goes by the name Sammy Davis Junior Junior. If you get the reference, you win a high five. Eric has a chinchilla named Mittens, who has devoured one MacBook power adapter and thirsts for more (for the record, Tim’s other bunny, known otherwise as “The Dark Lord”, has chomped through two MacBook power cords). Ben has a kitten named Klaus, whose name is pronounced ‘Klowse’. Dustin used to have a dog named Rocky and a cat named Apollo. He will next purchase a kitten and name him Saxby Chambliss.

2. Tim Doesn’t Own A Videogame Console - That’s right. Tim doesn’t do console gaming. He’s all about World of Warcraft and the occasional shooter, like Crysis, on the PC. This makes Ben very mad. We all play teh videogamez though.

(For all seven, hit the bump!)

Left 4K Dead: Shoot Up Some Simple Zombies

left-4k-dead

If your PC is anything like my awful Dell laptop at work, there is absolutely no way you can run Left 4 Dead. And chances are, if you’re like me, you desperately want to. Especially during lunch. But alas, my lappy has the processor power of a cardboard box covered in duct tape.

Luckily, this 4K Javascript tribute to Valve’s awesome Left 4 Dead, is absolutely fantastic. You can shoot up some zombies, in-browser, in this Javascript game that only takes up 4k. That’s it!

Thanks to Brian for the link, who defeats zombies by biting THEM. They then turn into humans.

Female Optimus Prime: Sexy Robotic Wallpaper

Hey Tim, check it out. It’s your dream woman.

You can download the full, high resolution wallpaper over on Tugen Wang’s Flickr page. I only wish the website wasn’t printed along the bottom of the wallpaper.

He has a bunch of other interesting desktop wallpapers as well, including this neat looking one of the Ninja Turtles. Be sure to skim through his Flickr to check out the rest of his illustration work. Definitely a talented guy.

Spidey Sense Tingling! Real Life Heroes Emerge!!

l_4c936daf1334ff38904fd191c8b30331

At some point in all our childhoods, we wanted to be superheroes. I wanted to be Superman, but as I grew older I realized I couldn’t fly and fanboys would never accept a black Superman. I hung up my bath towel, went to college and decided to live a rather normal life.

However, there are people in the world who have continued to seek the means to fight injustice. They’ve created their own costumes, superhero names and they actually fight crime.  They even have myspace accounts!  This sounds like the beginning of our own group of Minutemen. If you scroll through the site you’ll find that these heroes follow an ethics code,  and they even do movie reviews.

Check out the Superhero Registry and see for yourself.  Also check out this great article on Real Life Heroes Master Legend and The Ace.
