Seven Random Things About Geekadelphia

Reader Steven Winkler tagged us in his Seven Random Things post, and you know what, we decided to play along. Why? Because it’s the Internet, and we like to have a good time. So here are seven random things about the Geekadelphia crew you likely didn’t know.

1. Pets - All us have a small animal in our lives. Tim has two bunnies, one of whom goes by the name Sammy Davis Junior Junior. If you get the reference, you win a high five. Eric has a chinchilla named Mittens, who has devoured one MacBook power adapter and thirsts for more (for the record, Tim’s other bunny, known otherwise as “The Dark Lord”, has chomped through two MacBook power cords). Ben has a kitten named Klaus, whose name is pronounced ‘Klowse’. Dustin used to have a dog named Rocky and a cat named Apollo. He will next purchase a kitten and name him Saxby Chambliss.

2. Tim Doesn’t Own A Videogame Console - That’s right. Tim doesn’t do console gaming. He’s all about World of Warcraft and the occasional shooter, like Crysis, on the PC. This makes Ben very mad. We all play teh videogamez though.

3. Ska Music – Yep, Eric, Tim and Ben at some point were all into Ska music. Some of us still are! Eric and Tim were even in Ska bands in high school — oh snap!

4. Cosplay, Cosplay, Cosplay – Every one of us has dressed up as a geeky character of some sort at one point or another. For some of us it’s more often than others (ahem, Tim is a stormtrooper) but we’ve all done it. Eric’s visited his Thornier side from time-to-time and Ben may or may not have carried a tiny baseball bat all night fairly recently.

5. Gmail - We’re all addicted to it, on a somewhat obsessive level.  You can catch us on it for at least eight hours a day, every day, either striving to reach the ever-elusive “Inbox Zero” status or just putzing around e-mailing each other about the newest version of WordPress.  Additionally, whenever Geekadelphia is being featured, Eric has been known to attempt any and all interviews through Gchat first.

6. Carnivorous – We all eat meat, voraciously. This is the city of cheesesteaks and we’re not even remotely abashed about eating many of them. Ben prefers american or provolone with onions, salt, pepper and oregano — he also isn’t exactly picky about where his cheesesteak’s coming from. Tim, however, takes his with provolone and whiz (ewwww), as well as some onions for good measure. He also notes, “Every element is very important in a cheesesteak, because it’s so simple…and I rate mine in order of importance – it goes Beef, Roll, Cheese, Overall (toppings, experience, etc.).” Eric kept his answer more simple, “Provolone and mushrooms with ketchup.” Thank you for being easy, Eric.

7. Smart Phones – With the most recent major holiday season, the last member of Geekadelphia to not own a phone with internet browsing/e-mail received an iPhone and thus, the circle is complete. We can all talk on assorted messaging programs, e-mail each other LOLcats and then Tweet about it. (And no, we don’t all have iPhones. Eric’s left out in the cold on that one. Oh well.)
