Golden Globes Announced: Geekadelphia Torn Between Two Loves

This morning the Golden Globes were announced, surprising movie fans everywhere with nominations for movies only your mother went to see and films that have yet to be released. However, there are several worthwhile nominations that certainly deserve some mention.
Personally, I was absolutely thrilled with the nominations for In Bruges. Its the first movie since Tigerland that I actually liked Colin Ferrel in, and his performance was really fantastic. I’m also happy to see the supremely underrated Brendan Gleason finally nominated for something substantial here in the states. See Braveheart, The General, Gangs of New York, for examples of his talents.
I could go on and on about the list, but really, you should just check it out for yourself over on the IMDB.
We here at the Geekadelph are huge fans of two particular blockbusters. Tropic Thunder and The Dark Knight. If you scan through the list, you’ll notice under the Best Supporting Actor category, nominations for Robert Downey Jr in Tropic Thunder and Heath Ledger in The Dark Knight. Tom Cruise also has one, but we’ll ignore that for now.
How supremely unfair is it that there are separate categories in Best Actor (Comedy and Drama), but no separate categories for Supporting Actor? Why, dear Golden Globes. Why are you making making us choose between the funniest performance of the year and the most brilliantly dark? I could have whined about this last year, but come on, who really cared about John Travolta in Hairspray? Bah.
Check out the list for yourselves. And what’s it going to take for It’s Always Sunny to finally be nominated for something? Charlie Day is the man.

Why didn’t they just give a nod to Downey Jr. for Iron Man?
Slumdog Millionaire is gonna win everything so people can write articles about how despite all the dark and brooding films we had this year, the biggest winner was the feel good film.
I felt good after Dark Knight. I felt good about not living in Gotham City!
