Seriously, what is with the tech / geek / nerd scene in this town? We’re so nice, friendly, and caring. We throw events, hang out at the same pubs, we all follow each other on Twitter… some of us are even BFFs on Facebook (that being said, I just poked Alex Hillman). Shouldn’t we be blowing each other up and cursing at one another over XBox Live or something?

Nope, not in Philadelphia. Here, we care about one another. And with the holiday season in full swing, two of my favorite local Geeks (hi Kara and Roz!) have helped organize Geeks Who Give, an attempt at bringing together the geek community for charitable events. Some ‘open source giving’.

They’ve partnered up with Philabundance for a Food Drive and Tweetup. A Tweetup is exactly what it sounds like. All us crazy Twitter folk meet-up and get some face time in. So head on over to National Mechanics tomorrow, between 6 and 9PM, with five non-perishable food items.

Lots of friends will be there giving away fun prizes. Katie and Dana from Open Source Cupcakes will have some tasty treats, and our pals Marisa and Scott will be doing a live Fork You demo. Awesome.

The first person who brings in a dented bean can, wins the ultra special, super expensive Geekadelphia prize! It’s slap in the face from yours truly. See you there.
