The packed Video Game Expo ‘08
Wow!
Ben, Tim, and I hopped on over to the Pennsylvania Convention Center today for the Video Game Expo, and had ourselves a seriously good time. I spent most of the day ogling rare video games, vintage systems, seldom seen imports, and, for some strange reason, lots and lots of swords on sale. I’ve never had the privilege of going to an event like E3, so I was really looking forward to the Expo.
I figured it’d be like the poor man’s E3. Yeah, I was wrong, but whatever. The Expo seemed mostly dedicated towards PC gaming and tournaments, all of which had some SERIOUS cash prizes. We’re taking tens of thousands of dollars here, all for winning games like World of Warcraft or Counter-Strike (v 1.6 none the less — aka pre-Source Engine). I had a good time learning about that whole subculture, despite the lack of new games, flashy presentations, and foxy girls posing with beloved video game mascots.

But really, while wandering around and taking pictures and videos of Master Chief, I couldn’t help but find myself wondering where all the booth babes were at. Gamervision had one, so much to my disappointment, all photography was strictly videogame related. Apparently the babe I noticed was just a gamer at the booth. Bah.

Hey, are you guys on Twitter? I tweeted that I’d be there today in case anyone else locally went.
I took my 13-yr old there today and was checking things out with him. He had a pretty good time checking out the games. Myself, I was in awe at the hardware. I did get some pictures that I’ll be putting up over the course of the next couple days (depending on when I have time) and I’ll try to let you know when they go up.
