Alex Ross’ Obama Shirt and Signed Print

My mother emailed me last night asking where she can buy T-Shirts to support Barack Obama.  I promptly opened a quick set of links I recently posted on Big Red Tank to some trendy Obama shirts… and then realized, “Wait, this is for my mother.”

I then sent her directly to the official Obama online merchandise store because she prefers the more conservative stuff…which got me thinking, “I still don’t own one.“  I wanted to buy the one we wrote about earlier this year, where Obama’s name was displayed in the same style as the Philadelphia Phillies’ logo (but this was taken down).

It only took 5 minutes on Google to find the perfect shirt – one designed by none other than Alex (super amazing comic artist ) Ross.  Arguably I could have also gone for Shepard Fairey’s Obey-style shirt but the trendies at Urban Outfitters and the label demand that I pay $30. If you know me and my shirts, there’s no way I’d pay that much.

In any case I also found that Alex Ross’ Obama shirt is a $18 licensed reproduction based on the print he released at San Diego Comic Con this year.  Now that I’ve ordered the shirt, I’m seriously thinking about the (surprisingly affordable) and most excellent autographed print.  $59 is well worth it, and for something this historic, an artistic rendition can be a very powerful relic of our time.
