Halo 3 “Prepare to Drop” Teases Campaign Expansion(?)
We certainly hope so at least. The countdown timer found on Bungie.net has expired and the video you see above has been released to the masses (ourselves included, of course). In case you’re blind (or uninterested – for shame!) and are listening to this blog post through a text-to-speech translator, the teaser shows what is, in this humble blogger’s opinion, most likely the future-Earth city known as “New Mombasa” just before a number of drop pods rain down onto the cityscape. The pods could be a whole number of things — ODSTs, Covenant, Spartans — though a lone drop pod careens through the skyline before the video comes to it’s conclusion, hinting at the possibility of a new Master Chief-based adventure set in the Halo 3 world (as we all know, only the Chief could survive a pelican drop pod crash landing like that).
As Joystiq points out, a banner ad for the trailer on Xbox Live has pointed to this being a campaign expansion:
High action and deep mystery await players in this new Halo 3 campaign experience. Prepare to drop!”
Also of note from the Joystiq post, embedded in the video is the date — a Tuesday, mind you — of January 6, 2009. Sounds like a good time to drop a Halo 3 expansion pack, no? We can only hope.
(Possible outcomes of the teaser are (somewhat educated) guesses that I made — according to me– so everyone chill out! This is not fact, this is speculation! Thank you.)

If those are human drop pods why did they destroy human buildings
@Snider: Not that i’m one to quibble over the little stuff, it’s quite possible that these drop pods were escaping from a ship that was orbiting over the surface of the planet (which would leave space for a tie-in with the currently in-development RTS Halo Wars wherein a ship, The Pillar of Autumn’s sister ship, hovers just above the surface of the planet). But you’re right, it could likely be covenant drop pods and the last drop pod is you, coming to fight off the threat. Who knows? It’s a sweet trailer though, right?
Wow! Thank you! I continually wanted to write on my blog something like that. Can I take a fragment of your post to my site?
