In the case of the DC Comics 75th Anniversary Poster Book, there were two covers I liked that didn’t make it into the published book. The New Adventures of Charlie Chan cover was shitcanned for obvious reasons: the suits at DC were terrified of offending the Chinese government, which controls the world’s supply of wood pulp—a key component in the production of comic books. The thinking behind the snipping of this gorgeous Golden Age Hawkman poster is more obscure. I suspect my good friends at Quirk Books just got fed up with my constant tubthumping on behalf of gorilla covers.
