Styrofoam Robot: Large, Non-Biodegrable

After stocking up on Styrofoam for over five years, Kevin Kelly built this rather big robot. On Kelly’s website he says how computer gear…

“is sheathed in custom-fit Styrofoam armor, and I hated to throw it out because it was beautiful stuff. I took the little bits to the recycling center, but the large, intricate, weirdly organic pieces I stockpiled in my basement. I was just looking for an idea of what to do with them.”

Inspired by two Styrofoam creations by Michael Salter at a museum in North Carolina, he built, what he called the perfect “geek dad” project. Hey GeekDad, you guys listening? Could be a fun project.

Read up more on the Styrofoam robot over on Kevin’s website, complete with cool pictures.

Hey Eric. Kevin actually cross-posted his styrobot story to Geekdad (http://blog.wired.com/geekdad/2008/08/the-styrobot.html) as he is a contributor to the blog. Trust us, we all drooled over his awesome creation.
