Chiptune Party @ Liberty Lands Park
August 8th, 7PM – 11PM
3rd and Poplar, Philadelphia, PA
—
080808 is a free outdoor chip music show happening in Liberty Lands Park on August 8th. Chip music uses older computer and video game hardware, combined with new software, to produce original music in a number of different genres.
8GB from Argentina, and on break from his European tour, combines Commodore, Amiga, and Game Boy consoles to create unique uptempo 8-bit breakbeat. NYC chip music veterans Nullsleep and minusbaby are also coming down to rock Philly. Nullsleep creates powerful romantic pop using repurposed low-bit electronics, and has performed extensively throughout North America, Europe and Asia. minusbaby focuses primarily on software-based composition, using lo-fi electronic synthesis to create chip music that defies genre classification, but is undeniably energetic and danceable. Philly locals will also be well-represented. Animal Style meshes his jazz guitar playing proficiency with Game Boy programming skills and compositional command. Cheap Dinosaurs, a veteran of the indie rock scene, first gained recognition as a chip music virtuoso with his his band Chromelodeon. Now he rocks solo with a few synths and powerful Game Boy driven melodies that are both catchy and complex. Auto Da Fe seeks synthesis of energy and elegance with Game Boy-based compositions for dance floor and den.
An integral part of chip music events are the visuals that accompany the sound. Philly locals NO CARRIER and VBLANK will be providing the eye entertainment all night. NO CARRIER reprograms nearly obsolete videogame hardware, for use at live music events, and has taken his 8-bit eye candy worldwide in the last year. VBLANK uses his own chip-based video synthesizer, creating stunning high contrast lo-fi visuals.

In case you hadn’t noticed, the park’s at “n3rd” and poplar. Hmmmmm….
