E3 2008: Blogging the Nintendo Press Conference

So here I am, sitting on a fake plastic bench outside the entrance to the Kodak Theater, anxiously awaiting the inevitable door opening any minute. Big announcements? Well Nintendo already dropped a pretty hefty bomb yesterday, just before the Microsoft Press Conference (via text message no less). What will be revealed today? Hit the break to find out! (Hint: Yeah, they did finally show Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii.)

Satoru Iwata, President of Nintendo (the man who officially owns my heart), came out to massive fanfare today at the Kodak Theater in Los Angeles and spoke to the crowd about “the Nintendo Vision.” He spoke about the “Paradigm Shift” that’s taken place over the last couple of years since the Nintendo Wii launched and how the videogame industry has in turn responded. He spoke of “evergreen games”, such as New Super Mario Bros. and Nintendogs. He spoke of the Mario and Zelda teams at Nintendo, and said they were both “Hard at work.” But let’s be honest, you don’t wanna know all these gruesome details right now, you want the big announcements. And so here they are, itemized below, for your approval. Enjoy.

 New Games(!):

-Shaun White Snowboarding (“Holiday, ’08″) — one more game for use with the Balance Board.
-GTA: Chinatown Wars (“Holiday, ’08″) — this one’s an exclusive for the Nintendo DS.
-WiiSports Resort  (“Holiday,’08″) — comes with the recently announced MotionPlus accessory packed-in.
-Star Wars: The Clone Wars (“Holiday, ’08″)

Release Dates:

-Animal Crossing: City Folk — “Holiday, ’08″
-WiiMusic — “Holiday, ’08″
-Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia — Nov. 10, 2008

It’s a bench made out of fake plastic, as opposed to real plastic. (aka “that good shit”) Just in case you were wondering.
