Grand Theft Auto IV: Midnight Release in Philadelphia

Last night, at around 11:45PM, I made my way over to the Gamestop on South St here in Philadelphia. I had pre-ordered my copy of Grand Theft Auto IV a few weeks back, and from what I heard, the Gamestop on South St was the only one in the area hosting the midnight rush for GTA4. I took this short video on my digital camera to show you just how long the line was. That’s my roommate walking the length of the sidewalk.

Geeks lined the streets, chatting excitably about signing to multi-player as soon as they got home, while the Gamestop employees attempted to keep things under control. I gotta hand it to them, they definitely kept their cool and managed to make picking up the pre-order an easy experience. With nearly two and a half blocks full of anxious geeks, I honestly expected mass chaos. It was anything but.

Bonus: After scoring my copy of GTA4, my roommate and I strolled down South St to the Wawa over on 2nd, to grab some snacks and soda for our upcoming video game marathon, and caught this little gem of failure.

Advertising FAIL, across the street from Maoz. That’s advertising money well spent.

All-in-all, a good experience. Props to the Gamestop employees on South St.

See you all on XBox Live.
