After seeing Tim’s post on the 10 Best Sci-Fi Suicides, I had to see what else IO9 had to offer. Their article on the Seven Habits of Highly Effective Spaceship Captains is brilliant to say the least, giving fantastic advice and wisdom to those even without starships.
2. Always shoot first. Every good leader should be willing to do what he or she asks of her team. One of the reasons for the loyalty of the ragtag crew of Serenity, the ship Malcolm Reynolds captains in Firefly, is that Mal will throw himself into battle to protect his team. Whenever he has a crazy scheme or rescue mission in mind, he takes the first plunge. Lesson learned? Show your crew that you’re willing to take a bullet for them, and they’ll do the same for you.
Ah, Firefly. Such a good show, canceled before its time. Anyone else see Serenity? Awesome.

I loved both Firefly and Serenity..I still believed they’d come back until I saw Serenity…why did they have to do it? poor Wash…
And you’re so right, it ended prematurely. The story could have been taken further and wouldn’t have needed filler episodes -like the boxing episodes that another scifi show i really liked was using.
