Casino vs Turtles… Turtles FTW!

We here at Geekadelphia love animals. We really do. I have a bunny and a chinchilla, and Tim and his fiancé have a rabbit as well. So we fully support the little red bellied turtle and his battle against the casinos.
Want to help? Hit up TurtleSale, a website that somehow manages to sell live turtles online. Buy one, two, five hundred, and set them free.
It probably won’t help, but it’ll be funny. Plus you’ll help supply those people who sell these little guys outside the Philadelphia Zoo with more inventory.

Hey guys! Great shout out to the turtles.
Being geeky myself I do want to point out that the turtles for sale on turtlesale.com are red-eared sliders which will not help slow the spread of casinos, at least in this area.
Red-eared slider turtles are native to the Mississippi Valley area and have successfully invaded everywhere else (probably by people releasing their pets since the turtles can’t cross oceans but have ended up with breeding populations in Korea, France, Malaysia, etc.). They are considered a nuisance species here in Philadelphia (and probably in Boston too). They have similar habitat requirements to the red-bellied turtle and may compete with it for resources (like basking space, overwintering sites, maybe food).
So make sure the turtles you are releasing (even if it is just in your imagination) are red-bellied turtles!
