The Philadelphia Experiment

The Philadelphia Experiment

While doing some research about the various warships and historical vessels sitting around Philadelphia’s docks, I came across an article about the USS Eldridge and a military experiment that occurred in October of 1943, referred to as the Philadelphia Experiment or Project Rainbow.

Apparently, the entire destroyer was rendered invisible to human observers, and teleported from Philadelphia’s shipyard to Norfolk, Virginia. There are tons of conspiracy theories circling the story, from Nikola Tesla’s unified field theory to the paranormal and time travel.

There have been movies made about it, including one in the 80s that starred Nancy Allen (she was in Robocop… remember?). Check out the sweet movie poster, which screams 1980s.

Read the Wikipedia entry, learn about this interesting chapter of Philadelphia history, and decide for yourself if it happened or not.

I believe it. But that could just be me, considering I love learning about odd stuff like this. I’m doing a project on Nikola Tesla and stumbled across this. I personally think it is really cool!
