MakePhilly Idea: Bristlebot Battles!

MakePhilly Idea: Bristlebot Battles

Ever since I found out about MakePhilly and their challenges, I’ve been keeping my eyes open for fun ideas to bring to the table at meetings. And what could be better, then handmade mini-robot battles and/or races?

Check out Bristlebot. It’s a vibrobot that uses a cellphone vibration motor to power it along. It doesn’t take all that much. A toothbrush, the motor, batteries, tape, and some light soldering. When I saw the picture, I assumed it was going to move really slow. Watch the video after the jump, and be prepared to be surprised.

I can already see it now. A large smooth surface, tons of Bristlebots, and an all out demolition derby of bots, zipping around.

Great idea.
Imagine replicating this with BIG motors and scrub brushes…
We did try a mousebot contest a while back but not many people managed to get one put together.

our only other robotics themed meeting was when we put together beam bots, and they are not much for fighting.
