w00t: Crowned Word of the Year

Yesterday, “w00t” was crowned Word of the Year by Merriam-Webster, claiming that the word “reflects a new direction in the American language led by a generation raised on video games and cell phone text-messaging.” Spokes people from the dictionary said that it’s “like saying Yay!” and it can be used after a triumph, or simply for no reason at all.

The runner up? “Facebook” used as a verb.

Check out the Merriam Webster website for the top ten choices, and then email them suggestions for next year, such as “curses!” or “jaun

I feel the only correct way to respond is “w00t.” (But! Jaun! What does it mean?! Because I keep hearing it! And NO ONE WILL TELL ME.)

It’s kind of sad to see Merriam Webster in its last dying grasps at trying to remain relevant.

And “w00t?” I hate to sound like a cultural elitist but, is MW getting the world on 10 year taped delay?

hmm have they incorporated “n00b” and “google” yet? I’m too lazy to check, lol.

“Jaun” is a south- PA phrase that can replace any noun. Person: “This jaun is soo crazy.” Place: “Let’s get out of this jaun.” Thing: “Move your jaun out of the way mk?”
However all of those sentences can be used to replace the other. It’s confusing.
