1995 Batmobile Sells for Pennies, Ceiling Cat Approves

Batman Forever was one of those movie I saw as a wide-eyed 11 yr old and thought was the best thing ever. Nearly 13 years later I now realize just how bad it was. The soundtrack to that movie was also my first ever CD. I also maintain that U2’s Hold me Thrill me Kiss me was their best song ever, but that’s neither here nor there.

Recently the Batmobile from this movie was sold by Warner Brother at RM Auctions for “only” $297,000. The car was valued at over $800,000. A STEAL compared to the original price tag of $2,800,000 to make this bad boy. Unfortunately we won’t be seeing it on the mean streets of Center City because:

- PPA would have a hissy fit over the two parking spaces it would require
- There’s a laundry list of restrictions on it, one of which prohibits the use of the Batmobile on public streets.
- And there’s also the fact that the buyer is not even in the Philadelphia area.. but that’s not important.

The list of restrictions can be seen after the jump, followed by official proof that Ceiling Cat approves of this auction.

“1.The Batmobile may only be exhibited at purchaser’s permanent location and at auto shows conducted at parks, schools and other similar public places but not at shopping malls, markets, department stores or commercial locations.

2. The Batmobile may only be exhibited in a stationary state and must be mechanically unable to be driven while on display to the general public and must comply with applicable fire codes.

3.The Batmobile may be driven solely when necessary for maintenance purposes and may never be driven while in public view.

4.No modifications, alternations or cosmetic changes of any kind can be made to the Batmobile nor can the Batmobile be reproduced in any way.

5. The Batmobile shall not be licensed, leased or otherwise made available to any third party for any reason.

6. The Batmobile may not be used, referred to, photographed or depicted in any advertisement, endorsement or promotion of any commercial establishment, product or service of any kind.

7. The Batmobile may not be sold, transferred, leased or disposed of without prior written approval from Warner Bros. Consumer Products.”

Haha, I’m glad ceiling cat approves.

there really is no advantage i can see for owning said batmobile. they wont let you do anything with it.

“3.The Batmobile may be driven solely when necessary for maintenance purposes and may never be driven while in public view.”

“may never be driven while in public view?” you need your own private road i guess.

I remember seeing this at the Philly Car show way back. It was cool… but they also had KIT that year.

more like BUZZKILL mobile…

seriously what’s worse than having a stationary batmobile?
what kind of terms and conditions are these?
the rules should all be opposite:

i.e.

1.) You can only drive the batmobile(tm) in view of at least three (3) other people. Ratio should be kept to a MINIMUM of 2:1 females to males. Which shouldn’t be hard because it’s a Batmobile.

The only “no” should be “no bumper stickers” .. i.e. “MY OTHER RIDE IS A PRIUS”

On a related note: I saw a replica of the old tv-series style batmobile cruising down route 23 south in wayne, nj and it was seriously the most bad ass car i’ve ever seen in person. better than ferrari’s, lambo’s, rolls royce. I’d definitely rather have that than the batman forever shark-mobile.

5. The Batmobile shall not be licensed, leased or otherwise made available to any third party for any reason.

So if your friend bought this sweet ride, it would be illegal to say to them: “Dude, can I borrow the b-mobile? I’m the only one of us who has even the slightest chance of getting any tonight! I need that ride!”

Though the design of this offended every fiber of my Batman loving being, it didn’t stop me from owning the batmobile phone of it, or the one from the first Batman movie. That thing was fly. Its headlights flashed when it rang. Doesn’t get better than that.

It just tickles me that more than half these restrictions wouldn’t hold up in court.

In other news I would also love to drive this thing in the Mummers Parade.
